This is an odd review. I’ve had J&S in South Amboy on my radar for a while now. I love a good Upside Down pie and heard good things about them. But I’m not in the area often when they’re open. So today I was in the area. I go in, order a large upside down. I wait. They gave me a regular cheese pizza. I don’t know if it’s language barrier, maybe the tv blaring and it’s loud, I dunno. Anyways, light airy crust, a bit floppy but bendable. Sweet sauce, tomatoey and not overpowered by garlic etc. Tangy cheese. It’s an average pie, tasty but I wouldn’t go out of my way. Not sure if I’ll make the effort to go back for the upside down, what are the chances it’s in a different league? Should I? EDIT: I’m told the original owners sold the place a few weeks ago and it’s now open under new management with the same name and menu.

This was a phenomenal experience! The food was fresh and flavor packed. The service was quick, friendly and seamless. I’ve had pizza all over the world, this is the first I favor over New Haven pie. I can only explain it as a flaky, crispy flavorful crust and undercarriage. The cheese was smooth, not too overwhelming and not greasy. The service was prompt and attentive, as well as accommodating and friendly. The owner is hands on making the pizza by hand, something that is cherished with it comes to quality food. Last but not least the price was hands don’t be beast deal in Jersey! 2 slices “you call it” and a beverage $6.99 🫶

You get 2 slices and a soda for $6.99. It could have been plain or with a topping, so ya can't go wrong there. The crust was thin, which is a plus. Wish they had more choices on the counter. Only had plain, peperoni, bbq, and Buffalo chicken. Small place. Only has 3 tables in it. It's more of a takeout place. Bit we did dine in. 4 of us had two tables. The other table was taken by the employees doing something else. Overall, the pizza was good, and I would definitely stop by again if I was out that way. I'm not sure I'd make a special trip just to go there. I recommend trying it for sure if ya get the chance!

A Standout Local Gem for True Pizza Lovers

As someone who’s worked in the culinary field — and especially in pizza — I tend to be a bit particular when it comes to dough, sauce, and execution. That’s why Perez Pizza really stood out to me. It’s a small, unassuming spot, but the pizza speaks for itself: well-executed, flavorful, and clearly made with care.

In an area where so many places feel rushed or just going through the motions, Perez Pizza offers something rare — food with passion. The presentation, the attention to detail, and the balance of flavors all reflect a team that takes pride in what they do.

Out of all the pizza spots around, this is the one I keep coming back to. It’s become my local pick — not because of hype, but because the quality is consistent and the spirit behind the food feels genuine.

Highly recommend if you appreciate pizza made with...

I used to go here about two times a week, I even put up with the steadily declining quality for the convenience (after our 1st experience we nicknamed them Soggy Sams) But the Final straw came with an order, that i lazily had delivered, came destroyed by oil and wasnt even a fresh pie, but a slice pie they tossed fresh cheese on and disregarded my actual order for toppings, but when i returned it, the owners excuses started by blaming the delivery boy... the next step was to blame me for calling just before closing (9 pm but i called at 8pm they were heading home early) Ive read all the wonderful reviews about J&S so maybe im just the sucker whos business they didnt want.. which is fine, i...
