As an avid traveler and a self-proclaimed food enthusiast, I have had the pleasure of exploring many culinary delights around the world. However, my recent visit to Boston's Southern Kin Cookhouse has left an indelible mark on my taste buds and cemented its place as one of my all-time favorites. Let me tell you, it's truly a hidden gem that deserves every bit of recognition it can get. Located in the heart of Boston, Southern Kin Cookhouse is a restaurant that skillfully captures the essence of Southern cuisine with a modern twist. As soon as I stepped foot inside, the warm and inviting ambiance instantly transported me to a place where hospitality and comfort reign supreme. The menu at Southern Kin Cookhouse is a testament to the restaurant's commitment to showcasing the rich and diverse flavors of the South. From classic dishes like fried chicken and shrimp and grits to innovative creations like smoked brisket sliders and collard green egg rolls, every bite was an explosion of delightful flavors that left me wanting more. One dish that truly stole the show was their signature dish, the "Southern Soul Platter." It featured an exquisite combination of tender, fall-off-the-bone smoked ribs, succulent pulled pork, and juicy fried chicken. Accompanied by a selection of mouthwatering sides like creamy mac and cheese, tangy coleslaw, and buttery cornbread, it was a true feast for the senses. The attention to detail and the use of high-quality ingredients were evident in every bite. The service at Southern Kin Cookhouse was impeccable, with attentive and friendly staff who were more than happy to offer recommendations and ensure that my dining experience was nothing short of exceptional. The waitstaff's deep knowledge and passion for the menu further enhanced the overall experience, making me feel like a cherished guest. In terms of ambiance, Southern Kin Cookhouse strikes the perfect balance between rustic charm and modern sophistication. The cozy yet trendy interior design, adorned with charming Southern-inspired accents, creates an inviting atmosphere that's perfect for a laid-back meal with friends or a romantic dinner. Lastly, let's not forget about the delightful selection of craft cocktails and carefully curated beer and wine list. The bar staff at Southern Kin Cookhouse are true artisans, and their creations perfectly complemented the flavors of the dishes I enjoyed. I particularly recommend trying their refreshing watermelon basil margarita—it's a revelation!

Absolutely loved Southern King Cookhouse! Haven't been out too much over the past year or so (🙄) and I loved the homey feel. We sat in a nice window seat for lunch on a rainy afternoon. There was no wait and we were welcomed warmly... Our server Kayla was amazing! We instantly clicked, she made it so easy to ask questions and was so knowledgeable about all the special touches the establishment added to the menu. (House infused drinks, sauces, seasonings 🥰) I happily trusted her and quickly accepted took her drink suggestions (I forget the name of it but it was Peach & had house infused bourbon so ya ;) ) the house infused bourbon was such a nice touch. It is a slightly limited menu but within great reason, i mean i wasn't looking for much more... my guest was a bit disappointed at first but honestly I didn't see much need to add to what their staples are. We ordered the fried chicken (which is what initially drew me to the place the day before when I walked by & could smell the juicy golden crispness in the air). The sauces!! Sooo good!!! Get the remoulade for sure it's so delicious on everything! We also ordered the burger and biscuits... Amazing!! Everything perfectly seasoned! Sorry pics are limited cause as soon as it hit the table we couldn't resist!! Everything was great, I wish I ordered more chicken and now have a severe fomo about not trying the chicken & waffles! Alas I must return soon to partake ;) The biscuits were humongous, golden, warm and the honey butter with the jelly was like a dessert... I didn't get to try the burger but at the rate it was inhaled I can assure you it was banging!! Please note they had no cheese substitutions BUT the at first annoyed guest who had shunned the spicy pimento cheese (had it in ots) quickly changed his tune when he realized it wasn't "that" spicy and the consistency was spot on. Bottom line I will be back and very soon!! Atmosphere was chill, servers and staff beyond friendly & there is so many more delightful things to try! Get the chicken no matter what ;) Enjoy!!

I went to the Southern Kin in Assembly, Somerville, MA, for the second time, and wow, what an upgrade in their food since March! Starting with the appetizers, the Devilish Eggs, boasting beet-cured eggs, bacon candy, jalapeno, and beet chips, were an absolute delight--one of my favorites with an easy 9/10 rating! The corn ribs, featuring roasted corn, cashew sour cream, aleppo chili, and toasted pecans, were nothing short of spectacular. My brother declared them the best corn he's ever had, and I wholeheartedly agree--10/10! The mac 'n' cheese, adorned with breadcrumbs, scored an 8/10 for its comforting twist, while the salad, while a tad standard, held its own at 6/10. The Fried Green Tomatoes, topped with crab, grilled corn, cherry pepper salad, and garlic aioli, delivered a tasty experience, although the corn did steal the spotlight a bit--7/10. Moving on to the large plates, the Shrimp n' grits, featuring andouille sausage gravy and cheddar grits, were a symphony of flavors. I especially enjoyed the sausage--7/10. We also tried their alligator tacos and these are so fun to try especially if you are an adventurous foodie like myself-trust me they taste like chicken 8/10 Dessert was a sweet finale, and you can't go wrong with the Chocolate peanut butter and peach pie slices. The chocolate peanut butter stole our hearts, and while the peach pie lacked a bit of fresh peach punch, it was still a delicious treat--8/10. In summary, Southern Kin has truly upped its culinary game, earning a solid 8/10 overall food rating. While affordability and ambiance both received a commendable 7/10, the diverse and flavorful offerings make it a must-visit for those seeking a delightful dining experience!

Oh, my southern genius friends! It was an incredible meal, drinks and desserts. My biggest issue was what to order because everything on the menu looked mouth watering delicious. It was my son's birthday so naturally we had to toast. First we ordered drinks - he had a peach drink and I got a mango one (sorry, forgot the names. Mine was listed on the menu). Lord in heaven, I knew I was in for something spectacular since the drinks were phenomenal. My son went for the catfish and I chose alligator tacos along with a side of greens and cornbread. Holy moley!! The food! The tacos were incredible. I wanted something different and gater was greater! I've had catfish before and did taste it. Incredible all around. The collard greens in applewood bacon and cornbread with maple butter, really? Can I just lick the butter out of the container please! So tasty. On to dessert!!!!! Please forgive me, we ordered 4, YES 4, pieces of those miraculous pie slices! The key lime pie can't be compared to any other I've had even in the Keys! The blueberry were chuck full if berry goodness as was the peach. The pecan pie was better than any other pecan pie I've had in any restaurant. My Aunt from down south knows pecan pie from an ages old family recipe handed down from generations back before corn syrup was used and this was very close to hers. She would have been proud. The sign of a great restaurant is the menu and the less the food selection, the better the food. Chef's can concentrate on give you the absolute best gastronomical experience. Southern Kin excels at this. Thanks for a great meal for my son's birthday.

I had taken my boyfriend out to this restaurant for our date night. it was both of our first time there. we had a reservation, and they sat in a high-top corner table by the bar. the bartender was our server. he came over with no personality and just asked us what we wanted to drink. we ordered a wine and a Chai espresso martini. after we had gotten our drinks, the server came over and asked us if we were ready to order. again, no personality or conversation, just a "what do you want" attitude, and that was it. it wasn't too busy in the restaurant. we could see some tables open. we would empathize with him is he was super busy and running around, but that wasn't the case, so we were a bit confused about the attitude. we ordered apps and our food at the same time. corn bread and wings, and then for dinner, the short ribs and country fried steak. I guess that meant to the server that we wanted everything at once because that's exactly how it came out. the food out within mins and everything tasted very good. the short rib on the bone had little to no meat on it, mainly fat and cartilage. but it was very flavorful. the server eventually came over when we were done, and he brought over the bill. he didn't ask us for another drink, nor did we have the opinion to get dessert. we just ended up paying and leaving. we were there for maybe about an hour max. it was just super rushed with no care or concern at all. just not the best experience. might try it again because the food was good, and i want to try other things on the menu, but I will probably just get take out

It was amazing! Nice funky decor, great attentive friendly staff including the restaurant manager and the food me and my friend tried was delicious! Also we had great drinks to match! I had the shrimp po boy with the delish potato wedges on the side and my friend had the chicken sandwich which can be grilled or fried she had fried. We found out they didn't fry the chicken the traditional way they use air frying I believe it's called where air basically makes the nice crispy skin with way less oil! Healthier fried chicken who knew! But she said it was great. We also ordered the devilish eggs which were ridiculously good! The trout rue and all the fixins so good! They were under the small plates so it was only three but well worth it as a appetizer we could've gotten another one added to make 4 but 3 was good. And the star was those farmhouse buttermilk biscuits umm it came with honey butter and seasonal jam both were delish and the buscuits were huge! The drinks we had were one of their infused bourbon we got ours cocktail style and it was the peach cobbler yum! Overall I would definitely come back and please ignore the reviews under 5 stars as they say you can't please everyone! A tip our waitress told us is Friday and Saturday evening make reservations before 7pm since the place gets packed quick and wait times to be seated can be up to an hour. We did a walk in during the day so it was fine.
