Dolce Roma Cafe — Restaurant in South Padre Island

The owner wasn’t friendly. We came with our 5 well behaved kids and their grandparents. We had a large expensive order and tipped. After a couple bites our 2 year old dropped his on the floor. I throughly cleaned it up myself and my husband told the owner what happened. She didn’t even offer to replace his ice cream. She charged us full price for another tiny cup for our toddler.

I have had similar small child spills at chain ice cream stores with minimum wage workers where they were much more friendly, gracious and offered to clean it up and replace the ice cream at no additional charge. I was not impressed at all and wouldn’t...

They have a 2 taste per person sign. Completely understand because most of the time they have crazy & unsupervised young tourists visiting their store, but we are a family (2 adults, 2 teenagers). I was not given the opportunity to try the gelato that I wanted. After my 2 tastes, I saw more flavors that interest me. I was denied to taste them. I was not about to buy gelato without tasting it from a place I've never been to. Better judgment from these people would've gotten them...

We have visited the other location many times across from Blackbeard's and it was always very good. However, this visit at this location, the gelato was not creamy and was full of ice crystals. Additionally, they charge 4% for all debit card and credit card transactions. I can understand for a credit card but debit should be as good as cash. The ice cream was not as we had expected from this specialty shop and the quality was below par. The waffle was reportedly great...
