My wife and I went in on a Friday at 5 for a date night. She loves lobster while I prefer shrimp, but we both eat a lot of seafood locally and on the east coast. So we were expecting a good experience based on reviews and photos. I heard this place had been a food truck first, and that makes sense. Plastic cups, trays and forks. There was a squish mallow lobster at the bar, but that was the only decor that pointed towards a theme other than the plastic plants and plain walls to match the plastic serving utensils. The food was mediocre at best. There were only a handful of menu options which included Lobster or shrimp roll. They were out of shrimp, which is what I wanted. 5 pm on a Friday and there are out of shrimp. I went with the lobster roll with Old Bay seasoning, my wife did lemon herb. When our food finally arrived, some 25 plus minutes later, ( it was not busy, we were the 3rd couple in there) it looked like little more than a few small claws on a Trader Joe’s brioche bun with a handful of Tim’s cascade chips on, you know it, a plastic tray. The flavor of mine was ok, it’s old bay, right from the can. My wife said she couldn’t tell this was lemon herb at all. And she knows her seafood. For a $24 plate, I expected more. It made the popcorn and soda at the AMC theater feel like a good value. I read the other reviews and while I can see other people rate it high, I am not sure what restaurant they went to, won’t be returning...
Read moreI cannot say enough good things about this place! From the moment our food hit the table, it was clear we were in for something special. The lobster rolls were absolutely divine—stuffed to the brim with juicy, perfectly seasoned lobster meat and nestled in a buttery, toasted roll that melts in your mouth. Every bite was heaven.
We also tried the lobster mac and cheese and the lobster-loaded tater tots—both were out-of-this-world delicious. The mac was creamy and indulgent, topped with tender shredded lobster and herbs that gave it such a rich, comforting flavor. And those tater tots? Crispy, golden perfection under layers of lobster, tomatoes and drizzled sauce. Total flavor bomb!
Even the sides, like the kettle chips and lemon wedges, were fresh and thoughtful touches that rounded out the meal beautifully. The ingredients tasted super fresh, the portions were generous, and the presentation was chef’s kiss.
Whether you’re a seafood fanatic or just looking to treat yourself to a next-level meal, do yourself a favor and come here. This place has officially ruined me for all other...
Read moreMy husband and I traveled up the coast of New England last fall and had lobster rolls in every place possible. I noticed on that trip lobster rolls were smaller and much more expensive than my prior trips (several years before). So, I was surprised to find Makiel’s Lobster Rolls were generally less expensive than those where they actually have lobster locally and were better than at least half or more of the places!! Win-win!! Makiel’s lobster is tender, not chewy, showing they know how to cook lobster. The garlic butter is so good! I saw one reviewer complaining about the rolls just being “toast” and I’m here to confirm that the bun used is literally what you will find at any establishment serving lobster rolls. It’s a split top roll that is toasted (again… butter!) on both sides. I was very pleasantly surprised and we will be back!! Side note: I don’t want to misrepresent with my statement about them being less expensive than those on the east coast. They ARE LESS than most we had out there, but of course lobster rolls are still expensive. But also delicious and worth the splurge...
