The new Louis is almost as good as I remember the old Louis.
I’ve gone to Louis countless times during my youth all the way up until they closed. There are two things that stand out to me as the best it’s the Gyro omelette and the pancakes.
With the excitement building, I was shaking when I went into The Original Louis Cafe. New location, supposedly the same menu and recipes. I was excited.
I ordered the Gyro omelette with a stack of pancakes on the side. My quest was finally over.
I asked for a side of hollandaise. They always used to have it. No Hollandaise. So my omelette was great, but not a recreation of the old days. Terrific omelette and hashbrowns. No hollandaise.
Then the stack of pancakes came. I was expecting 3 cakes to cover the entire plate, be like 6 inches high (exaggerating for effect), and be a golden brown and crispy on the sides. None of the above. They looked like any old pancakes you’d get anywhere. They weren’t thick, nor thin. And they weren’t crispy. At all.
I used to eat 5 plate-size pancakes at one sitting. I know my Louis pancakes. These weren’t them. But there’s hope.
Whatever spice they use in the batter, and ONLY Louis pancakes uses whatever it is, it was in there. The aftertaste of the pancakes was excellent. Like the old Louis.
Maybe the cook was new, had a bad day, or wasn’t trained. I’m really looking forward to the thick, crisp, risen pancakes that I remember the next time I stop in.
(EDIT: I returned on 8/17/25, the pancakes are done correctly now. EXACTLY how I remember them. Almost like cornbread, and the syrup just soaks into them. The stack of 3 BIG pancakes was absolutely delicious and just how I remember them.
Also in this update, they DO have hollandaise sauce now, so I can replicate the tastes of my youth and the gyro omelette.
The food at this location IS how you remember the old Louis. It’s just a little further into Superior. )
I enjoyed the food and will be back again and again!

Read moreLove the food, it has never disappointed, however we tried to dine there today and after this experience I doubt we will be back. After being seated we didn't see our server for over 20 minutes, finally she took our order- we then waited another 40 minutes before I had to ask a different server what was going on because our server had completely gone missing. She sent our server over with our drinks, who said our order was just about done and that there was a lot of "to go" orders so that's what was taking so long (even though we watched several tables get seated AFTER us, get their food, eat and leave-they also had the other server... ) we then waited another 20 minutes, and again had to ask the other server about it as our server was once again MIA, our sever finally came over and told us she didn't know when our food would be done, we informed them we would just pay for our drinks and leave, as we had now waited almost an hour and a half to only have some orange juice and our 8 and 1 year old were starving to which our server, very rudely told us that was our choice and once again blamed the to go orders. Then as we were walking out the doors she came to tell us our food was done if we wanted it, we decided to take it to go, I paid for the drinks and food as they boxed it up. After we left and opened the boxes a bunch of food...
Read moreI swear, when I heard that Louis Cafe was open again in Superior, I nearly wept with joy. So much of my misspent youth was spent at the location on Tower*, late at night, eating pancakes and having great conversations.
Allow me to inform you that this location (though a bit out of the way) brings the food and service quality of the old Tower Avenue location. There were three of us in the party, me and my folks. Step-dad just wanted pancake and hot chocolate. I got the Classic Greek Skillet, and Mom got the Eggs Benedict with gyro meat. Everything was PERFECT. The eggs. The Hollandaise. The tzatziki. The coffee. The SERVICE. I don't understand why the place was practically empty. I just don't. Yes, it's a ways out there on Hwy 53 (right after Gronk's), but that's no excuse. This place is a hidden gem with a long history.
*I was told that there would soon be a location on Tower Avenue again!!!!! Right across the street, no less, from where the original location was! They're cleaning and painting and such in there, so no idea when it'll be open, but we might just get some of that original grandeur back! Fingers crossed that they'll decide to be open...
