Was really disappointed this year with Easter Brunch. This was very much a self serve buffet (and that is perfectly fine). The service concept was consistent with Cicis pizza but with a much lovelier setting. Get your own plate, drink and food. However, there was a designated server who got your initial beverages and took your check. Had a party of 5 and over 20% gratuity was automatically added to our bill on a buffet. The cost of the buffet was $190 pretax and $42 gratuity was added. Basically, the only service we had was 7 total beverages brought to our table which we could have easily gotten ourselves but the waiter originally insisted. There appeared to be three waitstaff for 20 tables but they were not actually waiting on the tables. Minimal if any pre bussing was done. Last year we had six people and automatic gratuity was not added and we had good service. $42 service charge for bringing 7 total drinks to the table is a bit steep. I had planned to tip $40 (same as last year) but 100% believe that $40 is a gracious tip and should be my choice when I do the serving myself. The issue is not the tip amount but the deceptive practice of automatically adding it. Also, the waiter didn’t mention that tip was already added to the bill (which is a little sketch)nor was it mentioned when booked. I left $40 on a $218 pretax bill last year (18.5% on a buffet) and feel it should be my choice and based on service. Again this is a buffet where you get everything yourself including beverages. Also, unlike most buffets, the waitstaff were not stocking or replenishing the buffet nor were they bring dishes etc. nor were they bringing condiments, etc. Literally 7 drinks, two of which were brought by the manger, a couple plates may have been removed and the check was brought. Absolutely nothing else. We assume the initial drinks were brought to us to justify the automatic gratuity. I also believe that auto gratuity may be inconsistent with law if it isn’t mentioned beforehand. There was no menu provided nor signage notifying of the auto gratuity. In addition to the gratuity there was 2% hospitality charge also added. We had no alcoholic beverages.
Disclaimer: The service was fine but non existent because there was no need for it. Everything was serve yourself. Last year we had a very attentive server but it wasn’t necessary based on the setup. The servers are there in spirit only. Now, were they busy? Probably due to so many tables and so few servers. So the initial drinks may have kept them busy but there was no need for it. It felt truly deceptive in an attempt to justify...
Read moreI won’t be back! Been here twice, both times to see the Better Daze Duo. Sat on the outside patio on a warm December evening listening to the music. There were a few larger tables filled outside, 2 small fire pits burning and not much happening inside. The music is what kept us there. I saw the Better Daze Duo was playing there again so I brought 4 friends along to give this place another shot and have dinner. The musicians were set up in the bar area this time. A birthday party of 10-12 ladies were celebrating, there were 3 other tables with people and a few sitting at the bar. We each ordered dinner and had great seats to see the band and watch people dancing, requesting songs and having fun. About 1 1/2 hours into it, someone requested an 80s rock song by Def Leppard. At the end of the song, the manager (or possibly the owner) leaned over the drummer/singer, Jack Fontana, yelling that they need to ‘turn the music down or leave right now’. We all looked at each other in disbelief. A friend told the manager we brought people here to see them play, plus this was only liveliness we’ve seen at this place. Better Daze respectfully obliged and turned their sound down. What a downward change in atmosphere and this place needs all the energy it can get. The birthday group danced a few more songs but their fun was over. As for our dinners, 3 of us had seafood, one had a burger and another had a salad. I asked my friends for their food review. The spring salad was good but nothing stood out. The burger was a bit rare to another’s liking but he ate it. The eggplant seafood was good and probably the best of the orders. The calamari order was not cooked enough and had to be sent back. I am glad to have given this place a second try since I wasn’t impressed with the first visit. With seeing how the manager behaved, confirmed why this place doesn’t draw people in. This is not the place to bring your friends for an enjoyable night out. It’s more for the over-70’s people that want a quiet place to sit alone. Feels a dying club. The 5 of us will not go back unless music is allowed to be played as intended. A pianist and a harp may be all this manager wants. Find another option for dinner...
Read moreWent last night for my Anniversary with my wife. We had reservations, but arrived early. We were greeted quickly, and allowed to pick our table, which was nice. They weren't too busy from what we could tell. It took about 10 minutes or so for our waitress to finally come to our table. She was pleasant enough. We asked about wines, and she had to go check. When she came back with our answer we ordered a bottle, and placed an appetizer order. Our bottle was brought out to us fairly quickly, but the glasses were dirty. We requested news ones, and asked for a glass of ice for my wife. We did get new glasses, but no ice. Our waitress approached us once more to ask if she had taken our appetizer order yet, answered the question herself, and was gone again in a flash. Still no ice, and no chance to ask for it. Our waitress did start by telling us she was the only 1 working, but we observed at least 3 others running food, drinks, and bread for her. She actually seemed to be doing the least amount of work, and just watching her order computer repeatedly. Someone approached us to bring our appetizer, and asked if anyone had taken our dinner order, to which we said no. She turned and our waitress was approaching so she motioned for her to come to us and take our order. She came to the table, but didn't do anything, and was gone again in a flash. Our appetizer was the calamari which wasn't even prepared to menu description. It had 2 components, calamari and banana peppers, and they still missed 1, the peppers. We finished the app, and the bottle of wine before being approached again, for anything. So we just asked for the check. Disappointing experience to say the least. This was our anniversary dinner, and thankfully my wife and I have good senses of humor. Decor was adequate. Walls were dirty and in need of paint. And for some reason they had gangster rap playing for the second half of our experience. Would not recommend this...
