Virginia Cakes: A Delicious Family Favorite for Cakes, Cupcakes, and More! We were first introduced to Virginia Cakes a few years ago at my sister’s wedding, and let me tell you, this place stole the show! Everyone kept asking, “Where did that cake come from?”—it was that memorable. Once I found out Virginia Cakes was less than 30 minutes from my home, it quickly became our go-to spot for all things dessert. Here’s why we love it: 1. The Special White Cake This is hands down the best wedding-style cake I’ve ever had, and the good news is, you can also enjoy it in cupcake form! I’m more of a cupcake lover myself, and this one is perfect—delicious, moist, and affordable. While other places charge $5 or more for a cupcake, Virginia Cakes offers a much more reasonable price without sacrificing quality. Plus, it’s a family-owned business, which I love supporting. 2. Other Must-Try Cupcakes In addition to the special white cake, we adore the Strawberry Cake (with whipped icing—yum!) and the Red Velvet Cake. The flavors are rich, and the icing is always on point. These are our top three, but honestly, you can’t go wrong with any of their options. 3. The Cookies If cake isn’t your thing, don’t worry—they also have cookies! My favorite is the Chocolate Chip Pecan, which is simply divine. The crunch combined with the gooey chocolate is perfection. They also offer peanut butter, sugar cookies, and my husband’s favorite—Snickerdoodle. And get this, their cookies are HUGE and less than $2 each. That’s an unbeatable price for such deliciousness. 4. Cakes Galore My husband can’t get enough of their German Chocolate Cake, and their Carrot Cake is another standout. We’ve had these cakes for family gatherings, and they’re always a hit—moist, flavorful, and beautifully made. 5. More Than Just Desserts Virginia Cakes also serves lunch! From hamburgers to sandwiches, they’ve got it all, and unlike other cupcake places, they have plenty of seating. It’s a cozy spot where you can sit down, enjoy a meal, and watch the staff whip up their creations with love. It’s an experience, not just a stop for sweets. A Few Extras • Parking is super easy. • The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. • While they only offer delivery for catering orders, I can vouch that their delivery service is top-notch. When they delivered my sister’s wedding cake to downtown Houston, it arrived early and was just as moist and delicious hours later. If you’re in North Houston and looking for a place that offers not just desserts but an all-around great experience, Virginia Cakes is the spot. **Lovely is YOUR Story fully endorses this incredible bakery for its delicious treats and outstanding customer service.**

I’ve bought 3 cakes in the last year from Virginia’s Cakes. Our first cake was our 2 year olds b-day cake and they made pearilized shells and colorful underwater plants which were absolutely adorable. I’m pretty sure we dealt with Virginia herself and she was very kind and helpful. They are delicious cakes. I’m always generally happy with the designs and their ability to make exactly what you show them. I wish I could give a five star review but The cakes are unfortunately VERY overpriced. I keep going back because they take an order in less than a week and they are very moist and they do taste wonderful. My experience this last time was less than great due to poor customer service with a new lady on the phone. She had poor communication and I felt like I was inconveniencing her. With how much these cakes cost and how many I’ve already bought you would think they would put in a little more effort on good customer service. Additionally this last one I had to buy and add my own sprinkles, loloi pops, edible glitter and cake topper and our 8” cake was still $70! for the simplest design possible literally just globs of icing on the top and dripping off the edge. They told me it started out at $50 for simple designs like lattice work, scrolls etc. and was charged $20 more and can’t figure out why. If there was a reason It was not communicated to me. It’s a good place to go when you are in a pinch for time and can make and add your own toppers to try and keep the price down.

Visited Virginias in the past and got cupcakes which were super yummy, so recently I decided to stop in for a slice of cake. I walked in and the young lady at the front was pleasant and greeted us, which is a positive thing. Now to the negatives: I was immediately off put by the smell of (maybe sewer??) I was expecting that fresh bakery smell but that’s not what it was. I ordered a slice of strawberry cake. Once she gave me the cake, I off-put and surprised at the half slice size portion that she gave me. Upon ringing up the order, I mentioned I think this was a half slice and not a full size and she didn’t say much. I asked is this the standard size of a cake slice? and said she does not know… then I asked if the cakes are baked from scratch which she responded she didn’t know? And I’m thinking huhh?? Very odd, you don’t know but work at the bakery??? I gave this review a 3 start because we did enjoy the taste of the actual cake. I must say it was soft and moist. Maybe give the staff some training. Overall I just wish the portions would match the prices and size is more of a standard. See pics.

I don’t do bad reviews but I consider this a PSA. We ordered my daughter’s wedding cake from Virginia herself. Our order included a sheet cake for easy service from the back kitchen and a dessert bar for my son-in-law who lives for sweets. The wedding cake was paid in full in person but come wedding day, only a cake arrived at the venue. When we inquired, the person blamed it on the bride saying she called and cancelled the rest of the order (an absolute lie) but eventually Virginia herself blamed it on us not calling with final counts so they cancelled the order for us. I asked her why they didn’t ask for a final count when the cake was paid for in full (in person) and she said that isn’t their job.

I would 1 star but the cake that did make it was delicious and she did send the desserts 2 hours late in a second delivery (which just happened to be the exact desserts we did in fact order with her which made it pretty clear that they forgot the desserts in the original delivery). No sheet cake ever made it and no apology was offered. On the contrary, she was unwilling to even admit that we were lied to about my daughter cancelling the order, despite that clearly being made up. Had she admitted they made a mistake and just apologized, I would have been gracious. Instead, she was rude and dismissive at every turn - plus she was perfectly willing to lie knowing full well it was a lie. Sad. Be cautious if you have an upcoming wedding booked with them - they won’t give you any...
