Shiloh's Steak & Seafood 3665 S. Washington Ave., Titusville, FL 32780
3- Stars
As any “islander” can attest, our main daily goal is to stay on the right side of the river. Alas, looking at my destination, I would not be victorious today. I was guided to Shiloh's Steak & Seafood by my trusty random name generator. Located practically dead east of Orlando on S. Washington Ave in Titusville, it boasts fantastic river views and permeates a pleasant dining atmosphere. But this is The Big Boy, and I don't care about views, atmosphere, service, or anything other than the execution of the menu.
Preston was our server today and he did such a great job that he got a 40% tip. What did he do to garner such a gratuity? He put up with me with calm, humor, knowledge and pleasantness that, if forced, was undetectable as such. I asked Preston for one New York Strip, a Seafood Platter, one Cesar Salad and a side of Cheese Grits. As Preston departed to turn in my order, I snapped some pics of the place (I really like the layout of the tables and the lighting) and relaxed a bit. Preston returned soon enough (I do time all my orders). I took a few more pictures, grabbed my tools of dietary decimation and got to work.
One bite of the steak and I knew two things. First, this was junk beef. Second, they had a damn fine cook as it was executed perfectly. I don't know who is cooking but they know how to cook food. The steak was a perfect medium-rare and superlatively seasoned. The Cesar Salad was on the same level of quality with the same love in execution.
Moving on to the Seafood platter. Again, one bite in and I knew it was frozen close to the bottom of the food service barrel quality seafood and I didn't care one iota. It was fried correctly and again properly seasoned. The grits were, to guess, of the industrial variety, however they too were pulled off with attention to detail and a certain aplomb. Again, I have no idea who was commanding the kitchen back there, but…. the…..

Read moreA terrible experience. First, when we arrived the hostess took us towards some stairs. Since my wife has difficulty with stairs, we asked if there was a ramp. She told us there was, but it was outside and currently it was raining and blowing and therefore not an option. So to eat we had to go down the stairs. A followup to this was that there was another dining room with less stairs to go down, but the hostess decided not to offer this to us as it was the turn of the server in the lower room to get customers. Of course we weren't told about this at the time.
We ordered an appetizer, salads and entrees. After a while the salads arrived which was odd since we hadn't seen the appetizer. My ceasar salad was good but her dinner salad was a disappointment. When the server came to clear the salad plates we asked about the appetizer and he told us that the kitchen doesn't start the appetizer till the salads go out. This sounded bogus and turned out to be so as a couple of minutes later he came back and told us that the kitchen hadn't even started the appetizer. If they did start it(!) it wouldn't come out till after the entrees arrived; did we still want it? We decided no.
When the entrees arrived it was another disappointment. My prime rib was good but the baked potato was mediocre. The sour cream came in a plastic tube to be squeezed out and the butter came in little tray packets like you get at a cafeteria. Not acceptable for a $40 entree.
My wife's entree was a chicken dish with a topping of cheese and bacon. The bacon was burned black. She had ordered a side of hush puppies and those were also burned. And the server never returned to refill her glass nor to check on how we were doing with the meal.
We did talk to the manager but we won't be going back. Aside from the food and service issues I'm wondering if having only an outside ramp unusable in the rain is even...
Read moreAtmosphere was beautiful! However, our experience was terrible. We went on a Saturday at 6:30-7pm and there was no wait and we were seated right away. We were excited to try a new restaurant and had high hopes since it looked like a nice restaurant with a beautiful view. The restaurant was quite large but pretty empty for a Saturday at this time. We ordered the shrimp and nacho appetizers. We were served the appetizers without getting silverware or plates. The shrimp was good, nachos were ok but messy. I ordered the lobster bisque and it was alright and some of us got salads with our meals. The casear salad had way too much dressing. When the food came out, only half the party of 6 got entrees and one was the incorrect dish. When waitress came to check on our meals, we let her know that we were missing half the meals and 1 entree was incorrect and my meal didn't come with the side risotto I ordered. She just acted like that was strange and said she'd check on the rest of the order. I ordered the 17 ounce ribeye and it almost seemed like they made strange cuts in it. I included a picture. The steaks were room temperature, not even warm. The remaining meals and my side of risotto were brought out 20 minutes later and the waitress just acted like it was no big deal and said our meals were given to a different table. She kind of acted like it was comical. Also, my risotto was served to me in a small plastic sauce cup. Really no point since I already ate most of the steak. Not eating together made it not enjoyable and no manager came out to apologize or anything like that. We figured maybe they would discount the meal or offer us maybe a free dessert, but nothing was offered. I would have taking more pictures of everything, but wasn't planning on leaving a review. I don't think we will...
