Stopped by for an early Father's Day dinner with a party of 6, arriving about 10 minutes prior to official opening time but we were quickly seated in the dining room.
The building was formerly run down and looked like it would have been destined for demolition but it has been beautifully restored both inside and out. One side of the building houses a large bar area with the dining room on the other side of a dividing wall. There is also what appears to be an outdoor waiting area with chairs and a fire pit but it was roped off when we arrived.
We ordered some tableside guacamole and potato skins as appetizers and both were very good. I've taken to trying guac when I see it on the menu, specifically when it's noted as homemade or tableside and this version didn't disappoint, with a nice flavor and served with fresh tortilla chips and an offer to replenish them as needed.
For dinner, we had a variety of orders including pork shanks with a mesquite glaze and sweet potato whip, Ancho chile shrimp over pasta, smoked paprika chicken, an open face strip steak sandwich with garlic butter and fresh fries, corn and sausage chili, as well as a variety of appetizers selected together to make a meal - goal cheese stuffed peppadew peppers, shredded beef empanadas, jalapeño corn bread, and pumpkin ravioli.
The food was amazing. Everything we ordered was perfectly cooked, flavorful, and well-presented on the plate. The portions were plentiful, so we unfortunately didn't have any room left to try dessert.
As frequent visitors to the Brant/Schroon/Lake George area we are always on the lookout for restaurants to try and this one has set the bar for what want one to be. While the prices aren't cheap, they're only slightly above what I'd consider typical for an area that has to make much of its living in a few months a year. But more importantly, this is probably the first place we've visited in the immediate vicinity of Brant and Schroon that actually felt like fine dining, and for that the prices seemed more than reasonable.
In short, I'd highly recommend the Bull House and hope it has a long life in...
Read moreMy wife found this place and we decided to try it. First time we came, they had a closed event and private party, so we realized we had to call it in first. Next day, which was Tuesday I called and made a reservation, which I was suggested that we will need.
We were surprised to see that the place was very busy, considering it was Tuesday when we arrived. We got our table and ordered. The staff is very nice, pleasant and the atmosphere is very nice in this place. We decided to order and since I can't have any animal protein or dairy, this was one of the choices that my wife found in the first place. Their vegan menu is nice, but due to my very limited dietary needs, I could only pick a few things and more like shared plates appetizers, so I ended up getting 3 of those. I got their Vegan Empanadas, which came 2 on the plate, delicious, absolutely delicious. I also got their kimchi plate with plantains, that was also good and to make sure that I have enough food, I got their vegan baked potato with vegan sour cream and butter. All was delicious and it was enough food, but I just wish that there were a few main vegan dishes to choose from. My wife got a chicken dish, with sweet mashed and said it was very good, as well as she got the beef empanadas for the rest of the family at the table, besides me and they loved those. Our son and my mother in law got Flank Steak with chimichurri sauce. He got it with fries, which were extremely tasty and she got hers with sweet mashed, which she also liked very much. The only draw back was, that my son got medium well and my mother in law got well done. They brought all of the dishes for us, but her well done steak took longer, which is fine, but usually don't bring the rest of the table if someone is going to wait for a while. That is something that should just be a restaurant rule of thumb, but everyone was very happy with the meal and at the end of the day, it was a great...
Read moreOur experience here was not good. Tried calling to make a reservation, but the phone was busy and couldn't get through. So we went there and when we walked in, at 7:00pm, we were told an hour for a table, but was told we could sit at the bar.The bartender was very sweet, but the owner came to her and told her , not to take our order until he said so.He was very rude and unprofessional to her and we heard him. She served us drinks and we waited for a good 20-30min before she took our orders. Then more people came in and was served and got their food before we got ours.Sat again for a long time before we got our bill, was ready to dine and dash!! But of course would never do that. Ended up being there for over 2hrs for a burger and about 10 French fries on each plate. Owner was absolutely awlful to his staff. There was four of us and we will all be giving the owner bad reviews. We're all locals and have been there off season when the place is not busy, and will definitely not be giving the Bull House our money again. Don't know the owners name and don't really care, but I hope he realizes how terrible he treated us and how he humiliated his staff in front of customers. Bye Bye to another...
