TLDR: The food is decent but the service is abysmal for the price point. Be ready to deal with impatient and distracted servers.
We were pleasantly surprised by the availability of vegan options. We had a good time until we got to dessert. They didn’t have a written dessert menu. In the future that would be helpful so customers can see what all is included in the dishes. The server just told us they have a “peach sorbet served in a peach”, no words on what it comes garnished with.
Did not expect it to arrive with a ton of pistachios on the plate, which my partner is allergic to. It was unpleasant but not a huge deal because I could have removed them for my partner; the pistachios weren’t in contact with the dessert. But when the server brought us the dish he said “hope you’re not allergic to nuts” to which we had to respond that my partner is indeed allergic. The server didn’t give us time to react or decide what we want to do with the dish.
It would have been nice if they asked if we want to keep it like that and deal with it ourselves, or we want it redone without pistachios, or just simply removed from the check. But they didn’t ask us. They just stormed off with the dish shouting “oh i don’t know why he always does this”. Whatever that even meant. So we just assumed they were gonna remake it without pistachios on the plate, like any decent restaurant would have done in that case.
We kept waiting there for them to remake it. They bring the check without the dessert on it “for when we’re ready” and we ask why the dessert is missing. They say “ oh don’t worry, we took that off the check for you”. We think oh so generous of them, they messed up so they’re offering us dessert on the house. Let’s offer a generous tip! Then we wait and wait and the dessert never comes. I ask for the dessert, they say we said we didn’t want it. We never said that; we were never asked what we wanted. It just seemed common courtesy to remake the dish without the pistachio garnish. We were willing to pay for it, they didn’t have to take it off the receipt. I still ask for it and they bring it completely frozen with no garnish, but not even the fresh berries initially included. We just didn’t want pistachios, it’s not that hard!
The dessert was not worth the trouble. It was a sad rock hard peach with exactly two tablespoons of sorbet in it. We later found the same exact frozen peach with sorbet in it for half the price and no trouble at WholeFoods 🤦🏻♂️ the whole situation was simply ridiculous and embarrassing for a restaurant with...
Read moreLike many other reviews with one star, the disappointment is not with the food but with the service . We were the only table and it was our first night there. Important to note that many Italians don’t know ( or care ) that the customers can hear and understand different dialects - be careful when you’re speaking about a table . We eat out all of the time - we’ve never been served a 2 ounce glass of wine and expected to pay $14 for it- when I questioned the size of the pour and was told it was well more than 6 ounces I decided to just ask for a bottle - long story short - the server wouldn’t take the glass and give me a bottle or just give me the bottle - she said I’m going to charge you for the 2 ounce pour and a bottle - I said that was wrong and not good business practice and I decided to not buy the bottle . When it was time to pay, the server didn’t care , I explained that I myself was a server for 8 years and that her response made us not want to return - the other server said there was nothing wrong with the food just the wine and that other places would do the same - I quickly replied not Stellina’s, a beautiful Italian restaurant down the block and they both said that that’s not a Sicilian restaurant, their restaurant is different and i couldn’t believe what was just said - I’m Sicilian …what an insult , that Sicilians are not as hospitable when it comes to serving people apparently …they do not know what needs to be done to keep a good customer and acted aloof when I said I’m writing a review . I didn’t drink that 2 ounce pour and left it for them . Asked to speak to the owner who was the chef and he refused to come out (speaks volumes ). To argue with a customer and deny that what they did was wrong =...
Read moreWe gave Autentico a second try at with an other couple. It took 50 minutes for the waiter to take our order. When he finally took our order he was very impatient and dismissive. The appetizers were actually good but the main course was not up to the expectation ( spaghetti with claims in a mare chiara sauce ). The dish was very bland and Ill pared. Desserts were okay...but then again the waiter was so nasty and arrogant that we could not get to understand what were all the choices We sat at 7.30 pm and left the restaurant at 11.15 pm!! Luckily the company was good ! One more thing: we were charged a credit card convenience fee. We realized that when we got home and while we understand that this is an allowed practice in NY, it should be only common courtesy to be notified upfront. Restaurant has potential but the owners need to be around to manage the place . People go out to eat to enjoy food, company and service not to be treated...
