My wife and I, a couple out-of-towner's, spent the week exploring the Champlain Islands and surrounding area. We wanted to experience some famed Plattsburgh Red Hots (otherwise colloquially referred to as Michigans. McSweeney's is well regarded by the locals and it's now well regarded by us too. Bare in mind, it's still the Covid age, so business procedures have to adapt. So you cant go inside to place the order, but they handle call ahead as well as car-side orders. Our waitress Taressa was out to our car window the moment we pulled in to clear up any questions we had and take our order. Taressa's help was top-notch; she was friendly, patient, and helpful with answers. We ended up ordering some Red Hots w/buried onions and mustard , onion rings, and poutine fries (gravy and cheese for those not local) with a couple bottles of soda, and our pup even ended up with a sliced hot dog of his own. Taressa brought it all out with some ketchup, Frank's hot sauce, napkins and utensil. After a dash of hot sauce on mine, I took a bite, it was delicious. You can see the little flecks or pepper seed and red skin, and there's a sweet spiciness too it, but not too spicy. My dog loved his sliced hotdog, but I almost had my first Red Hot down before my dog finished his. My wife skipped the hot sauce and said it was just the right level of spice for her, not too hot.The poutine and rings were fantastic as well. The poutine having gravy and cheese layered well throughout the fries, and the rings crisp and warm. Now the price, that's the icing on the cake. Now I'm used to paying more for food back home, as an out-of-towner I was expecting to pay nearly double what it cost. It's a fantastic deal! Locals of Plattsburgh, I'm jealous of your easy access to McSweeney's. If you're a traveler anywhere in the area, swing by for some great food and friendly help. Thanks McSweeneys and Tareesa for...
Read moreI, like many red blooded North Country natives, love michigans. The fact that they're open year round gives them an edge over Clare and Carl's (their michigan sauce is pretty much identical, those who argue otherwise are biased in some way, either that or they're mentally deficient). I docked a star for two reasons. 1.) They don't accept cards. I don't carry cash, like many others, which means I need to think ahead and make a special trip to the ATM or else get charged to use the one on site. 2.) They always have Fox News on. Put on ESPN or something less divisive, I don't need that political bullpoo while I'm trying to cram red hots...

The wait staff goes out of the way to thank you, and most call me by my name which is important regarding loyalty, as people tend to return to restaurants that make them feel valued. Thanks McSweeney's Rt.9, "you know this is the location by the city beach"... Great people who have...
