So decided to give Dos Panchos a try, our first time Friday night...and likely our last. The reviews showed promise but we left very disappointed. Arrived about 7:00 and seated promptly. They give you a roasted salsa (none of us care for roasted but no alternative) and white queso with the chips (queso was like most Mexican restaurants). Kiddo ordered a cheese quesadilla with fries and a lemonade from the kid's menu ($7.99 PLUS $2.99 for the drink making it an $11 meal!). Quesadilla came out, basically about 6" or 7" diameter flour tortilla (seemed store bought, definitely not made in-house) that had all of about 1/8" of melted cheese inside it. For that much, you'd expect a decently cheese filled quesadilla and the drink to come with the kid's meal (way less than that at say Speedy's in Glenpool - $6.95 with a drink).
Wife ordered the Chicken Fiesta Salad ($12.99) and while it was stuffed with lettuce, roasted corn, tomatoes and grilled chicken, the chicken came out cold and honestly looked like the chicken you get out of a store bought John Soule's already cooked chicken bag. It came with a spicy ranch style dressing and was just 'okay' per the wife. She also ordered the large House Margarita ($11.99) which was meh.
I ordered the 2 Taco Dinner ($12.99) with rice and beans. I asked to upgrade to fajita steak, expecting an upcharge ($4) which was absolutely ridiculous given that when the tacos came out, each literally had only 3 thin strips of steak that were about 5/8×2.5" in size on maybe 6" tortillas, barely any lettuce or cheese. There was honestly less steak than you would even get on a Taco Bueno steak taco for $2.99. With it, I got the rice and beans. Rice was certainly nothing special, rather bland and had nothing in it like peppers, onions or corn for flavor...just rice and maybe one serving spoons worth at that (see the pic and comparison to the fork). Refried beans tasted as if they were out of the can and reheated with a dash of crumbled cheese on top. Again, maybe a serving spoons worth.
Our total was $62.24 before tip. Absolutely ridiculous for the portion sizes of the meals and quality of the food. I had high hopes based on reviews but this was a total let down. I know I should have taken a pic of all the meals but only got mine and should have taken one of the inside of the steak tacos, but you can probably tell how little was in the tortillas.
Service was okay and certainly can't fault our server for the food.
Atmosphere was just okay...a little loud given the small footprint of the restaurant and lack of anything to help absorb sound.
There are better Mexican restaurants in the same vicinity that will actually give you an appropriate portion on your meals for equal or less $ (El Tequlia, Abuelos, Chuy's, etc). Won't be recommending Dos Panchos to anyone after this...
Read moreWe should have walked out the moment I didn’t hear any Spanish in the kitchen and the wait staff couldn’t really pronounce the names of the dishes. They gave us “complimentary” salsa and chips and some white velveeta queso. The salsa had a single flavor- cumin. No spice no nothing even though the server said it was a bit “spicy” lol. The queso was trash and lukewarm, literally velveeta white queso block melted down prolly in a microwave. The server was very friendly so I can’t fault her for her service cuz it was on point.
The mashed avocado with cilantro and red onions was the best thing we had. I think they called that guacamole.
For the price we paid ($84 for a family of 4 is ridiculous), I expected ACTUAL good food.
I ordered the steak street tacos, my son the carnitas street tacos, my daughter the kids bean burrito and my wife the birria tacos…the tortillas were very clearly heated via microwave as the consistency of them was that of whenever they are heated that way instead of on a flat top or ANY heat source. My daughter’s burrito was tough to cut because of that flour tortilla being heated that way. Any Latino worth their salt can tell the difference in the way the tortillas are heated up. Iykyk. The birria tacos were…edible? They were dry beef with cumin and cheese. Even the consumé was not good. My son’s carnitas tacos were dry and tasted like pork. Literally it lol no seasoning no nothing. My steak tacos were unseasoned as well. But the actual spicy salsa they brought out after I asked for actual salsa with spice made them edible. The tomatillo salsa was over limed which made it inedible.
My daughter got the churros as a dessert. She said they tasted like Fuzzy’s taco shop churros which is a clear indication that they are premade and not made in house.
For $84…yeah I’m not touching that place with a 50 foot pole. We ate simply because we were hungry. Being from Texas and Mexican, that place was an insult to actual Mexican food. The old saying of “the fancier it is, the worse it is” stays true here.
$16 for FOUR TACOS is insane. Even the kids burrito was overpriced.
Save yourself some money and go to Molcajetes - trust me, you will thank me and not be disappointed Again the...
Read moreNothing super special here. Average mexican food that you can get at any other restaurant. I am convinced that Oklahoma does not know what good mexican food is. To those that don’t know, I can see why they might like this place. If you want good mexican food, stick with the hole in the wall places. Complimentary chips, salsa and queso. Queso is thick but cold. Salsa has too much cumin. Chips are too thick and dry for my liking. I had the steak street tacos and my husband had the crunchy taco plate. The steak was marinated but the flavor is ok. The tacos need more meat and a bit more onions/ cilantro mixture. Beans and rice were served in a very small amount compared to other restaurants. need better flavor such a bit of garlic added. Chicken taco was not very flavorful but the shredded beef was ok. I dont mind Mexican music but it was way too loud. Staff seem friendly. Overall, overpriced for what you get and quality of food.
Follow up: I appreciate the offers but I am giving my honest opinion and expect nothing in return. The food is average and not seasoned well. Portions were super small for the price . When I speak of Oklahoma, I am talking about the people that live here giving reviews, not the restaurant owners or cooks. People here do not know what good Mexican food is and that is why I think the reviews are too high for the taste and portions of the food at...
