Peacemaker Lobster & Crab Co. (Peacemaker) is the passion project of Chef Kevin Nash, who drew inspiration from his travels along Maine’s rocky coast in Acadia. Nash, a James Beard Award-winning chef, has cooked for President Barack Obama and won the Cochon 555 Barbecue competition. With such a pedigree and the rugged shores of Maine etched into my soul, my expectations for the perfect lobster roll are sky-high. Let’s eat. Peacemaker’s atmosphere pays homage to the classic Maine lobster shack, infused with an upscale refinement. The space exudes a laid-back vibe intertwined with coastal charm. The interior is designed with a weathered wooden look, featuring cool gray woods, baby blue and steel seating, and light-colored wooden tables, all contributing to a casual yet sophisticated coastal aesthetic. The service for the evening was solid, with our waiter providing thorough descriptions of the menu and making thoughtful drink recommendations. He was attentive, ensuring our water glasses were consistently filled and responding promptly to our needs. The overall service was relaxed and contributed to a comfortable dining experience.
Oyster’s on a Half Shell
The oysters were expertly shucked and cleaned, with no trace of grit, shell, or mud. Each one offered a delightful sweet-to-salty flavor profile, perfectly capturing the briny essence of the sea mixed with the natural sweetness of the oyster. When paired sparingly with Peacemaker’s mignonette and cocktail sauces, the oysters were elevated by a beautiful acidic tang that complemented their creamy, oceanic flavor.
Clam Chowder
The clam chowder presented with a slightly brown, brothy appearance, which was unexpected for a dish typically associated with a creamy base. The flavor profile began with strong notes of salty bacon, which dominated the palate, followed by more subdued hints of clam juice and potato. However, the lingering bacon flavor overshadowed the seafood elements that one would anticipate in a classic clam chowder. While there were some chunks of clam present, the primary ingredient seemed to be potato, further contributing to the overall impression of a rich, bacon-infused potato chowder rather than a true seafood chowder.
Snow Crab Legs Boil featuring corn, biscuits, sausage, and potatoes.
The boil was cooked to perfection. The snow crab, in particular, was beautifully prepared, with each bite offering the sweet, salty flesh that makes this dish a favorite. The boil seasoning added just the right amount of salt and spice, enhancing the potatoes, corn, and sauce, and tying all the components together. The sausage was plump and juicy, contributing to the rich flavors Peacemaker brings a taste of New England to Tulsa, but its heavy-handed takes on classics like clam chowder and lobster rolls leave the coastal charm just out of reach.
Maine Style Lobster Roll
The lobster roll featured a portion of cream-dressed lobster atop a thick, toasted brioche roll. Each bite began with the rich, buttery flavor of the brioche, which then transitioned into the slightly salty and tangy mayo-dressed lobster, with sweet lobster notes emerging at the finish. However, the thick and heavy brioche dominated the flavor profile, overshadowing the lobster.
Summary
Peacemaker offers Tulsans a decent glimpse into the coastal charm of a New England seafood restaurant. The oysters were well-prepared, and the boil was traditional and satisfying, though it lacked some of the classic flavor profiles that define the region. The clam chowder leaned more toward a bacon potato chowder, while the lobster roll was heavy on the brioche, causing the lobster to get lost in the mix. This isn’t to say Peacemaker is a bad restaurant—far from it. Its offerings are unique to Tulsa, and it effectively captures Nash’s vision. If you’re craving a taste of New England, Peacemaker is...
Read moreWell, the wife and I were in the mood for a seafood boil. And boy did we get boiled at this place. So we went this Friday evening and I was surprised because downtown wasn't really that busy and neither was this restaurant which we were greeted and seated with no delay. When our waiter came to the table he greeted us and gave us plenty of time to get acquainted with the menu. We ordered our NA drinks and then we ordered as a starter clam chowder (recommended by server) and huspippies. And for the main course we ordered thr snow crab, but wanted to add shrimp, so he gave us a suggestion which was cost effective so we were able to get what we were looking for. We spent time with one another until everything started coming out. So when I got the clam chowder it tasted different than what I'm used to and I was starving and so was my wife. Like we both literally didn't eat for the whole day. So if you're like us when you're starving, the first thing you taste seems like it's really good. However, my wife being of sound mind was like "What is this?" And I was like it's clam chowder with a lot of potatoes. A lot of potatoes, as a matter of fact, it was more like potato soup with two pieces of clams at the bottom of the aluminum cup. The taste of the soup was just different and I admit even though the waiter came by and asked how it taste, my wife was shooting it down but I was like "oh yeah it tastes good." I was hungry but that's my fault. That's not the server's fault. I have to blame the cook for that. The hush puppies were really good but that sauce that came with it was a Miss for us. Maybe everyone else may like it but I just wasn't feeling it. But it's okay because one thing is for sure those hush puppies were moist and flavorful, really good! Now our main boil, when it came out (you'll see the pictures) everything looks really good. This is what we were salivating for, this is what we've been waiting for. Let's get into it! That's not the waiter's fault. That's the cook's fault and I say it like that because the crab legs were awesome and keep in mind this whole thing cost $60. The crab legs were really good and a few pieces of shrimp were really good but the rest of them were overcooked. I mean overcooked there was a relationship between the shell and the meat that didn't want to separate at all and it was like chewing rubber. I was like "oh man and my wife is a bigger critic than me." She was shooting that down like duck season. I'll just say the potatoes were good. The season was balanced. I don't know about that butter that they serve with it. That corn was cooked al dente, so you're not supposed to do that with corn. You're supposed to cook corn to the point where it's got some juiciness to it, not where it can either be popped or cooked more. The season really didn't transfer over that much on the corn. The sausage was well done, and I needed something to change the pace. The waiter checked on us a few times and before I had got to that shrimp I was like yeah everything's good. I appreciate it. So the waiter did his job. This review is not about the waiter it's about the cook. The cook. The cook. Because that is what had us boiled! It was the shrimp. It was the sausage. It was the corn but that biscuit could have been evidence of a murder trial! Because that biscuit, if you would have thrown it at somebody's head they would have had a severe contusion to the head and there would be severe hemorrhaging, it was dry as the Arkansas River in middle of Summer! So when I went to go wash my hands the waiter came and checked on our table. My wife explained everything and again the waiter was great and he took care of everything offered to make up for what was lacking and again it's not the waiter's fault but that cook needs to go back to...
Read moreVery disappointed in service and the food. Seems we waited at least an hour for our food, they were serving others that came in after us. And said when we finally asked like 45 mins after we placed our order about our food and they said it was still cooking? When we really didn’t have something they probably didn’t already have cooked. When we finally got our food, it was very over cooked, greasy beyond belief, very sad excuse for crab. It was literally just a spoon full of crab that we waited almost an hour and a half for. Two different waiters were trying to keep up with us and weren’t communicating with each other or something because they kept telling us different things. The alcoholic drinks weren’t great whatsoever. I’m sorry I just was not pleased and they were not even busy at all and had like seven cooks that I could see. So I just feel like they were forgetting things and didn’t care to follow up. Because no way we should have waited that long. I truly think they placed the order when we finally asked about it. I can’t believe I spent so much money on some not so great food but I will never return! I’m on the hunt for a good seafood place and this is NOT it. Their fried green tomatoes also, are BOTH not truly traditional yummy fried green tomatoes and everything was heavy handed on the seasoning and over cooked. So it wasn’t worth eating. My friend is from the coast and he was highly disappointed, and he’s had some decent seafood...
