I had to see what the rave was all about. This was my first time so I really didn't know what to expect. We arrived when it opened because I heard that space was limited. It was. Maybe 15 seats. Very small eating area. I really don't think it's meant to dine in. It's definitely not wheelchair or ADA compliant. The service was good, man was very friendly. I was a little surprised at the limited soul food side options. No yams on the menu, but you make them for catering 🤔. Since they are known for chicken & waffles, that's what I ordered. I was a little disappointed that the chicken was tender strips instead of wings, but I wasn't too surprised. Price point was moderate. The waffle was a nice size, but mine was overcooked. 😒 When I went to cut it, it cracked in half 🤨. The tenders weren't seasoned, but they were juicy. 👍🏽 The kool-aid option was pretty nostalgic 😄. Others in my party ordered the ox tails, fried fish, and party wings. With all that fried food, I'm trying to figure out why we couldn't smell anything??? IDK, maybe the ventilation sustem is just that good. 🤷🏽‍♀️ Overall, I support black owned businesses; and the fact it's D9 is a bonus, I know that they'll be successful, but I can't think of a reason why I would go back. #oneanddone

Wow!! I’ve missed these home cooked meals for way too long! Wish I had tried this place before now. Beola is the creator of these delicious recipes and her grandson is carrying on her traditions. Can’t thank him enough! We got chicken & waffles (of course my usual fave), red beans & rice, cornbread and sweet tea. Chicken is hand breaded with so many wonderful spices that don’t feel overly fried and moist meat. Waffle was big that we split it. Smothered it with their maple butter (YUM!) and barely used any maple syrup because the waffle batter had so much flavor and cinnamon which is my favorite. Waffle was so soft but not soggy it had lightly crisp edges. Rice & beans were so flavorful that you only get from a good home cooked meal. It has beef and pork links that give it so much flavor. Oh my heavens…they call it cornbread but I call it corncake because it was so fluffy, moist and not at all gritty. We were welcomed by the owner and he talked with us after we tasted to get our feedback. Great guy. Very hospitable. Pictures are attached to see our meal and the restaurant. There are 5 tables. They offer catering too.

The restaurant is conveniently located at the Sycamore Hills Plaza, off of Baseline Rd, before the 210 freeway ramp. I placed an online order for pick up. My food was made fresh to order & was ready at the promised time. Upon my arrival, (this was my first time here), I saw the restaurant offered patio dining in front of the business, where there was shade and a cool breeze, so we decided to eat there rather than take our food home. I just relocated to Upland from Oklahoma. Chicken and Waffles is a southern staple! And let me tell you, Beola's did not disappoint!!! The best chicken and waffles, you can taste the authenticity of a home cooked meal from a family recipe. The chicken was seasoned well, and the waffle was huge, fluffy. Everything partnered well and tasted so good! We loved it so much that we even ordered another plate to go for later! The customer service was phenomenal. You can see a lot of heart and care from the owner. Come support a local business and try amazing food! We'll be back to try other food items from the menu.

YOU MUST READ THIS!!! Do not spend your money at this place. The food quality is not worth the high price. More than that, the owners are not deserving of any support. Arrogant, prideful, rude, ignorant, and illegal are just a few words to describe them.

My family and I came in to eat today on October 5, 2018. After paying for our high priced medium quality meal, we kindly pointed out to our waiter that their illuminated sign which states in order to drink alcoholic beverages “YOU MUST BE BORN ON OR BEFORE OCTOBER 5, 1998” was incorrect. We pointed out that since it is 2018, this would only mean that someone is 20 years of age and is a legitimate concern because it is illegal to sell a 20 year old alcoholic beverages. The waiter then proceeds to tell us that we were wrong and that the owner could explain this to us as she had done for another group who had previously brought it to their attention. To that we told the waiter that there was no way to explain it, that the math speaks for itself.

Next thing we know, the owner comes out from the back and treats us like we are the idiots. She even pulls out a calculator to show us how we are wrong and that somehow 1998 to 2018 equals 21 years old. When the calculator shows that we are right and she is wrong she says that she must have put it in the calculator wrong. Then she has the nerve to ask us why it offended us so much, which it did not at all, we were just trying to help them. It did not stop there. She brought another table of 2 guests into the matter and when they said exactly what we had said, that the date was incorrect, she unplugged the sign and blamed the state of California. She said that the state alcohol beverage control (ABC) department is responsible for setting those dates, when in reality, it is just a simple dial to adjust on the back of those signs.

WOW! Right? What is obvious is the owner’s complete ignorance and stubborn pride which is not the type of person we all should support in this life. We should be supporting humble, teachable people who are kind to others. The scary reality is, if that owner is that ignorantly convinced that being born in 1998 somehow makes you 21 years of age, then how many illegal transactions have taken place where she has sold alcohol beverages to minors?

That’s all I have to say. Don’t waste...

Be prepared to pay for over priced lunch food and an overly apologetic server who be Littles their customers.

I took my husband here for Father's day after the raving review from a group.

When we came the place is very neat and tiddy you can tell they are short staffed so we were prepared to wait a while for a table and food no biggie.

When we went to order since my daughter has a beef allergy she asked if the brisket was beef or pork. The server not only answered condensendingly saying it of course it is beef, then proceeds by saying all brisket is beef.

In my head I know this is a loe because we had pork brisket my grandfather and father were butchers working for BAR -S Meats and Farmer John but you know what the say, pick your battles. My daughter then ordered the chicken sandwich, my husband the link and I got the friend shrimp and fries. We also got 3 drinks I knew the food was going to be awhile but it took awhile for the drinks. He said I have other drink orders to get to ect. No biggie so while we waiting a family got up and we decided to get to a different table.

My daughter saw it was dirty and offered to clean it he said no and proceeds to clean it.

Another family comes in and I guess they were impatient about him not getting there idk because they then just left.

You heard there server say I am sorry folks I was going to get right to you I had to clean the tables and then looks at us.

So once the table get clean we get or food and drink.

My husband's link was $5 and it was so small and wad the size of a hot dog.

My daughter's chicken sandwich was like school lunch. And mt shrimp was ok but the friend were freezer burned.

Overall I more than likely will not be back I don't feel you get though food for the money. I should have taken picks but we just wanted to leave.

I know the guys was short staffed and things but to take frustration out on your customers is not the way to go because regardless if you have a 100 staff members or not restaurants are a fast pace job and tou can't...

Went there because my hotel was next door and recommended by the staff. Walked in and the atmosphere was homely and inviting. The servers were very friendly, as well as the rest of the FOH and BOH staff that we had interactions with. My colleagues weren't very adventurous and went with the chicken and rice with gravy entree. I grew up in the south so I was pleased to see fried catfish on the menu. I really wanted grits for a side but nothing else really drew my attention so I decided on the mac n cheese. The server came and took my colleagues orders first because I was still deciding and I heard her ask if they wanted cornbread. Do you know a true southerner who doesn't like cornbread?!? I wasn't offered that as a side and with my meal being nearly $18 I didn't want to tempt myself with an upcharge so I let that go. I was asked if I wanted cheese on my grits...of course!!. Then we joked about the mac n cheese and all the cheese so I changed my mind to the rice and gravy but then oh no that's 2 starches again. So the server asked if I wanted some collards. Yes of course I want collards! Why wasn't that on the menu?!? Meals came out, good portions and price was comparable. The catfish was cornmeal fried, I was a bit disappointed because it was really dry but the grits and collards were very tasty. Overall I would rate the food a 3.5-4 but although the service was very friendly it was extremely slow and we never received a side of gravy that was offered to us and the checks took over 15 minutes to run and come back. I am 17 years in the industry so I completely understand if the service is slow because they are slammed but unless they were cooking and I didn't know...I'm not really sure why everything took so long. If I were back in the area I may give it a shot again but would most likely try...
