Captains Grill — Restaurant in Upland

Edited: I can see a lot about this place, but I’ll try and keep it short and sweet. This used to be my favorite place within walking distance of my work. I’ve been head chef and head pastry chef at a Michelin star restaurant. My background and food is add fine dining level. I have talked with her manager’s probably 17 to 20 times about different ways that things can change in their restaurant to improve not only the service but the food quality . Two weeks ago I ordered my favorite thing which is an Asada burrito. Unfortunately I am allergic to tomatoes and lettuce. So I asked for these two things not to be in my order. Instead of getting a steak burrito I got a salmon burrito. To be honest, I didn’t even know this was something that they offered . Number one I do not recommend salmon burrito. Definitely was not a great additive. So when I called to complain about my food, I went back and received another burrito, but yet there was very little meat. It was all rice, and I feel that they were patronizing me because they put on the other side of the burrito a full thing of lettuce and tomatoes. Now two people saw my burrito and they asked if I had a very large sushi roll. The burritos are normally stuffed with meat with very little rice and beans. It’s a wet burrito. It’s amazing typically today I feel that they took my food allergy as a joke and mocked me by presenting my food the way they did. On top of that I came on a Thursday the following week I do come here a couple times a week and the tacos the meat and everything has changed. I would imagine they’ve hired a new chef which the new chef is brought the food quality and presentation down dramatically . I’ve done way too much due diligence and had way too much patience with this place because I really truly love the food but now that the food is became horrible and uneditable and also very disrespectful how they’re treating the customers now they have lost me as a customer. To get a better understanding of why 82% of all restaurants fail enclose their doors is because of reasons like this. Listen to your customers that are giving you insight on what’s going on. Fix the problem. Don’t let it persist the same managers I’ve been telling the same information for over a year and now they’ve lost probably $300 from one person a week that’s $1200 a month. This is the first occasion visiting this establishment. This restaurant and bar has been here since 2018. We ordered a late lunch that consisted of Surf and turf Fries and the Tuesday dollar 99 tacos which is a great deal. We ordered the Fish taco, Shrimp taco, and Carne Asada taco for beverages a Dr Pepper, and had a couple of shots of Silver Patron for dessert, strawberry mango cheesecake, which was delicious all in all the food was good service was good are waitress was friendly, courteous, and attentive and that’s good. Customer service and the atmosphere was good. The prices are fairly reasonable as you know, you’re gonna order Patron you’re gonna pay for it was smooth. The interior is put together really well with different paintings on the walls and plenty of tables to sit down and enjoy your meal, it has a good-sized bar with an excellent choice of liquors wine, and beer the food presentation was appealing to the eyes. We had a wonderful dinner here! We went during Happy Hour so the prices were great! I love the whole shipwreck , pirate themed decor! I had the fish a chips and it was perfect! Nice sized pieces of beautifully beer battered and fried cod that was so white and flakey! The fries were crispy on the outside and nice and fluffy inside and the cabbage slaw was ok a little bland but it complemented the fish. My husband had some kind of stew or gumbo or something it had big shrimps, delicate pieces of fish and octopus and mussels in a slightly spicy red sauce over perfectly cooked rice! The menu is not very big and has several seafood, chicken , and meat options. The habanero wings were delicious and the potato taquitos were yummy! Our waitress was a little out of it but friendly.
