Bubbie’s Plant Burgers & Breakfast — Restaurant in Virginia

I recently had multiple terrible experiences with Bubbies. I have placed orders to later receive a text stating an item is unavailable, etc, AFTER being able to place an order for the specific item and the payment being deducted from my account. I received multiple orders with concerning health code violations; hair in food, wax paper in between sandwich and plastic shards. The response was they thoroughly checked the food. Clearly that isn't the case based on the photos I took. I simply asked for the order to be remade and that was an issue; the request was not honored. I brought these issues to the attention of management via email and text several times. They were dismissive and shortly after, unresponsive. The phone number provided to contact the restaurant staff directly does not work. I was also told my substitution requests may not be honored even after paying extra for the substitutions.

To make matters worse, I was charged for a meal that was never delivered once and again for a meal that was cancelled per the staff after texting me that the items were unavailable. I am still waiting on a refund for the order that was never delivered. Despite multiple attempts to contact the restaurant for a refund, I have been completely ignored. This lack of customer service and blatant disregard for consumer rights is unacceptable.

I strongly advise others to take heed to this review. It's clear that they prioritize profits over customer safety and satisfaction. Very unfortunate as my children and I wanted to support this establishment as we sometimes have...

TLDR: Salsa almost made me vomit and fries tasted like plastic.

I used to enjoy Bubbies in their DC location before they closed, so I was excited to try the new location. I arrived on time for my online order pick up (20 minutes after ordering) and had to wait for another 25 minutes with no one at the counter. Horrible service.

I ordered the chips and salsa and looked nothing like the pictures but that’s fine. Upon taking my first bite, the salsa immediately triggered hiccups and a burp simultaneously almost causing me to vomit in my car and couldn’t breathe for a few seconds. I have a high spice tolerance, and it was easily the spiciest thing I’ve eaten in my life. Spicier than “da bomb” hot sauce as featured on hot ones and the one chip challenge, both of which I have tried. I didn’t even know spicy food could trigger hiccups. I have mild burns to the roof of my mouth, stomach pain, heart burn, and nausea. There’s no chance this is the recipe as it is intended and has to be an error. Even taking the cap off the salsa for the picture in the review made my eyes water and nostrils burn.

I then tried a fry to help get the spice out of my mouth. Though I watched them make the fries to order and tried them less than 5 minutes after receiving them, they were somehow soggy and tasted like plastic which is quite impressive.

I even ordered one of their “super hot” sandwiches and the salsa was 100x spicier. The sandwich was the only good thing I ordered.

I tried the grilled cheese and it was really not that great. Served with a grape jelly for whatever reason. The pickles were good quality but smashed on top of the sandwich. Vegan cheese, the cashier asked me what kind of cheese I wanted, real or vegan, and I told them regular cheese but this was clearly vegan cheese.

I also asked the cashier to add tomato which was an option on their touch to order tablet (the cashier was initially busy so I tried ordering on there). That was not included either. The touch tablet to order wouldn't accept my card (chip insert wasn't working and now the slide wasn't either) so I had to order with the cashier. I mean this place has been open only a few weeks and something already isn't working properly.

But yes the sandwich was not really memorable, it was boxed extravagantly for no reason. Also it took them a good 10-15 min to prepare it which seemed bizarre to me. I ordered this thinking it would take them 5 minutes to prep it on a cook top.

I might try their plant based products just to give what they are known for a real shot, but this was not particularly a good experience. At least the price on the sandwich was...
