We visited here once about 10 years ago and loved it. We recently found ourselves in the area and decided to stop in for a late breakfast (around 10 AM) last Friday morning. I wish we would have went elsewhere. The hostess sat us immediately but wasn't overly friendly. I think we interrupted her conversation with another customer by coming in. Our server came and took our drink orders and we placed our food orders when she brought the drinks. The food came out pretty quickly. She dropped it off, came back about 2 minutes later and asked if all was ok, and dropped our check off and that was the last we saw of her at our table. No offer of refills, no have a nice day, nothing. I wouldn't have paid $3.25 for a 12 ounce glass of tea if I had known it wasn't going to be refilled. The menu they gave us was nothing at all like what is on the Mrs. Rowe's website. It was very limited. My partner got the 2 eggs with western ham, homefries, biscuit and asked for a side of gravy. I got a veggie omelet with a side of bacon, homefries, biscuit. His eggs were very runny, the gravy had no flavor and the ham looked like it came from a multi-pack in the grocery store. My omelet was advertised as a 3 egg omelet, but it was the thinnest, smallest 3 egg omelet I have ever seen. I had to salt and pepper my omelet and potatoes which I never do, but they needed flavor. The bacon was cold, but since it was bacon, I just ate it anyway. The biscuits seemed like the Grand frozen biscuits. Not sure if they were scratch made, but not the impression I got. When we were leaving I noticed a couple of cookies in the case, 2 different varieties. I asked if they might have chocolate chunk out back. She said no, they sold out the day prior. So I guess they do not make cookies daily. Not sure how fresh their other bakery items are. I don't think we'll make a return visit, something has really gone downhill with this place.

January 22, 2025 - Recently moved to Virginia, so my wife and I stopped for lunch at the iconic . . . Mrs. Rowe’s Family Restaurant! 😃👍🏼 I enjoy local history, this place offers lots of stories and good comfort food! It’s not fancy, but my wife enjoyed her fresh Reuben w/sauerkraut sandwich & side warm apple slices. WOW, my stacked fresh “ hunks” of baked real Turkey breast, ham, B, L, T, and cheese ( Mike’s Club) sandwich was delicious 😃👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼! My side was crinkle baked fries (the frozen type) oh well. Our server Erika was excellent, checking on us and answering questions! Thank you so much Erika😃👍🏼. I walked around, reading the articles posted on the walls . Then we met one of the family managers . . . Mary Lou DiGrassie who stopped at our table , a very nice lady who shared the history of this iconic restaurant. 1947 - Willard Rowe operated Perk’s Bar 1948 - Met , fell in love with Mildred 1953 - Willard & Mildred married, changed Perk’s to Rowe’s Steakhouse 1973 - Willard Rowe died, Mildred changed to Mrs. Rowe’s Family Restaurant *Michael DiGrassie (son)Managed restaurant *Interstates 81 & 64 built, added tourists in the early 1960’s *More family members joined the staff (Linda DiGrassie , Virginia Rowe LeMasurier) *Grandson Aaron DiGrassie is a trained Chef! His specialty is Bakery , desserts ! Special Note: As we finished our lunch, Mary Lou DiGrassie asked if we tried some pie for dessert? 😃We were too full for desserts. WOW, she packed up 1 slice of Lemon Meringue, and 1 slice of Apple Pie - FREE ! Which we enjoyed that night, very good ! Thank you so much! ( and Thanks to Chef Aaron 😃👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼) Special Request : ( To Chef Aaron ) Please consider adding the Famous tradition of FRESH (Southern) FRIED CHICKEN 🐔 😃❤️👍🏼

When traveling, we like to experience the local flavor. Usually, it's a lunch stop. We didn't see anything but the chain restaurants advertised on the highway, so we headed to the ubiquitous Cracker Barrel. As we turned onto the road just off the exit, we saw Mrs. Rowe's diner. It was a little after 1pm on Sunday, and they closed at 2, so we decided to check it out. Nice, clean, inviting entrance. A 'little old lady' was sweeping the waiting area. Maybe Mrs. Rowe?? Hmm 🤔.... could've been. Because it was late, they were out of a few items, but we had enough to choose from. Our waitress, Hailey, was great, and I asked for recommendations. I chose the fried chicken BLT and a side of cucumber and onion salad. I was a bit hesitant as the cucs looked like they might be mushy, but they were actually very good. Hubby had a chicken salad sandwich and potato salad. All were good. I was intrigued and impressed by the notice on the hostess station describing their ventilation system; I've never seen that in a restaurant. Even the Ladies room had a long, cushioned bench at the entrance. They also have a bakery section which was nearly empty due to the closing time. Apparently, there's quite a history with Mrs. Rowe's, as evident by the many pics and newspaper articles on the walls. I would definitely go again and try some of the entrées and desserts.

Conveniently located right of I-81, just outside of Staunton, VA, Mrs. Rowe's Family Restaurant is a true culinary gem that offers a warm and welcoming dining experience reminiscent of homemade comfort food. During my recent visit, I had the pleasure of indulging in some of the finest Southern comfort dishes, and the experience left me thoroughly impressed.

Mrs. Rowe's exudes a cozy and nostalgic atmosphere, blending classic diner charm with a touch of Southern hospitality. The walls adorned with vintage photos and the friendly chatter of both locals and visitors alike contribute to the inviting ambiance that makes you feel right at home.

From the moment I stepped through the door, the staff at Mrs. Rowe's exemplified genuine Southern hospitality. The servers were attentive, friendly, and quick to make recommendations, ensuring that every guest felt well taken care of throughout their dining experience.

The menu at Mrs. Rowe's boasts a delightful array of Southern comfort classics, and choosing from the tempting selection was a delightful challenge. After much contemplation, I settled on the pork tenderloin, a dish that came highly recommended, and a side of their renowned homemade macaroni and cheese.

The pork tenderloin at Mrs. Rowe's was nothing short of a revelation. Cooked to perfection, each bite revealed a succulent and flavorful interior beneath a crispy, golden-brown crust. The dish struck an ideal balance between tenderness and juiciness, showcasing the kitchen's dedication to quality ingredients and expert preparation.

Accompanying the pork tenderloin was a side of Mrs. Rowe's homemade macaroni and cheese, and it was a revelation in comfort food. Creamy, cheesy, and with just the right amount of gooey goodness, it was evident that each bite had been crafted with care. The dish transported me back to cherished family gatherings, where the best recipes are often handed down through generations.

My experience at Mrs. Rowe's Family Restaurant was a delightful journey into the heart of Southern comfort cuisine. The flavors were rich and authentic, capturing the essence of homemade goodness. The combination of attentive service, a welcoming ambiance, and, of course, the standout dishes like the pork tenderloin and macaroni and cheese, make Mrs. Rowe's a must-visit destination for anyone seeking a taste of genuine Southern hospitality in Staunton, VA.

Mrs. Rowe's Family Restaurant has earned its reputation as a beloved local institution, and I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone craving a delicious and heartwarming...

This restaurant was recommended by a friend when she found out we were visiting Staunton VA for the first time. A tour bus just unloaded when we arrived but we thought it would be worth the 30 minute wait (we were told) that turned into 50. My husband checked in at the 40 minute mark to find we were second on the list. After 10 minutes we noticed something amiss when we were not the second name or the third or fourth name called. We approached the hostess and noticed our name was marked off. When we pointed it out, she yelled at us saying we did not answer her when she called our name. Good grief, first, you never yell at the customer and second, we sat anticipating hearing our name, how could we have missed it?! Another employee spoke up and said. “This happens sometimes, I can seat you now” Really?! We are seated, the waitress approached our table and the first thing she says is, “we don’t have soup, what would you like to drink”. Okay…..at this point I wanted to sit everyone down and give them customer service 101 lessons since I’ve worked in customer service my entire career. My hubby asks, “the hamburger steak is the special today?” The waitress replies, “yep, what two sides do you want with that?” He looks at me and looks at her and just goes with it. “I’ll have mashed and green beans”. She looked at me and I said, “I’ll have the same”. I just couldn’t with this place anymore. The rolls were, ‘meh’. Honestly, Rhodes rolls are better that I get out of the freezer section. The hamburger steak was tasty as well as the green beans. The mashed potato’s were bland. The #1 must for me is for my food to be hot, it was just lukewarm. We passed on dessert. The atmosphere, well, there is none. It is pretty cold and unwelcoming. Checkout was interesting as well. The woman asked if we were leaving a tip on our credit card, I said yes and she asks, ‘how much?” Really? I’ve never been required to tell the checkout lady how much tip I am leaving. She adds the tip and has me sign the receipt that includes the tip line that I left blank because the tip was already in the total. I hope the waitress got her five dollar tip, or do I? Unfortunately, we will not be back to Rowe’s. I am very happy for those who have had a wonderful experience, I wish I could...

We visited 9/12/21 about an hour to hour and a half before closing after having drove from Richmond for a wedding. As we try to place our order one by one the waitress said we don’t have that we’re out of that. After finding out they had very little left I said “well maybe it would be easier to tell us what you do have. No sweet no offer to get sugar, I had to get up and get sugar from another table. We did have a small container of tea to split between me and my wife. My meal came with corn muffins but my daughter asked for some also, I asked about more since my daughter asked for them, but the waitress simply said as she walked away there on the table (2 small muffins) She did not check on us during the meal though her little pitcher of unsweetened tea sat empty as well as our glasses, I told my wife then she’s not coming back though my daughter had also asked for barbecue sauce and never got it. She finally came with the check at which time my wife asked for butterscotch pie, we don’t have any replied the waitress, so my wife got something else and I finally got a chance to ask for the muffins my daughter asked for during the meal, only to get 1 small muffin as a parting gift. I normally give at least a 10% tip to anyone but I felt our waitress was more concerned about cleaning up rather than serving us. You don’t walk away from a customer when they are talking to you. And how hard would it have been to heat a little water add enough sugar or at least offer some sugar after all by this time we were the last customer in the restaurant. Due to her disinterest I left her nothing, to which I heard her say as I walked out the door thinking I had already left ( Can you believe that after all I had to do and they didn’t even leave a tip) To which I replied as I walked out ( you didn’t get a tip because you were a lousy waitress. My wife said she would try them again but I don’t ever want to take a chance in bothering this waitress again so this will be...
