Read moreThis restaurant was recommended by a friend when she found out we were visiting Staunton VA for the first time. A tour bus just unloaded when we arrived but we thought it would be worth the 30 minute wait (we were told) that turned into 50. My husband checked in at the 40 minute mark to find we were second on the list. After 10 minutes we noticed something amiss when we were not the second name or the third or fourth name called. We approached the hostess and noticed our name was marked off. When we pointed it out, she yelled at us saying we did not answer her when she called our name. Good grief, first, you never yell at the customer and second, we sat anticipating hearing our name, how could we have missed it?! Another employee spoke up and said. “This happens sometimes, I can seat you now” Really?! We are seated, the waitress approached our table and the first thing she says is, “we don’t have soup, what would you like to drink”. Okay…..at this point I wanted to sit everyone down and give them customer service 101 lessons since I’ve worked in customer service my entire career. My hubby asks, “the hamburger steak is the special today?” The waitress replies, “yep, what two sides do you want with that?” He looks at me and looks at her and just goes with it. “I’ll have mashed and green beans”. She looked at me and I said, “I’ll have the same”. I just couldn’t with this place anymore. The rolls were, ‘meh’. Honestly, Rhodes rolls are better that I get out of the freezer section. The hamburger steak was tasty as well as the green beans. The mashed potato’s were bland. The #1 must for me is for my food to be hot, it was just lukewarm. We passed on dessert. The atmosphere, well, there is none. It is pretty cold and unwelcoming. Checkout was interesting as well. The woman asked if we were leaving a tip on our credit card, I said yes and she asks, ‘how much?” Really? I’ve never been required to tell the checkout lady how much tip I am leaving. She adds the tip and has me sign the receipt that includes the tip line that I left blank because the tip was already in the total. I hope the waitress got her five dollar tip, or do I? Unfortunately, we will not be back to Rowe’s. I am very happy for those who have had a wonderful experience, I wish I could...
Read moreWe visited 9/12/21 about an hour to hour and a half before closing after having drove from Richmond for a wedding. As we try to place our order one by one the waitress said we don’t have that we’re out of that. After finding out they had very little left I said “well maybe it would be easier to tell us what you do have. No sweet no offer to get sugar, I had to get up and get sugar from another table. We did have a small container of tea to split between me and my wife. My meal came with corn muffins but my daughter asked for some also, I asked about more since my daughter asked for them, but the waitress simply said as she walked away there on the table (2 small muffins) She did not check on us during the meal though her little pitcher of unsweetened tea sat empty as well as our glasses, I told my wife then she’s not coming back though my daughter had also asked for barbecue sauce and never got it. She finally came with the check at which time my wife asked for butterscotch pie, we don’t have any replied the waitress, so my wife got something else and I finally got a chance to ask for the muffins my daughter asked for during the meal, only to get 1 small muffin as a parting gift. I normally give at least a 10% tip to anyone but I felt our waitress was more concerned about cleaning up rather than serving us. You don’t walk away from a customer when they are talking to you. And how hard would it have been to heat a little water add enough sugar or at least offer some sugar after all by this time we were the last customer in the restaurant. Due to her disinterest I left her nothing, to which I heard her say as I walked out the door thinking I had already left ( Can you believe that after all I had to do and they didn’t even leave a tip) To which I replied as I walked out ( you didn’t get a tip because you were a lousy waitress. My wife said she would try them again but I don’t ever want to take a chance in bothering this waitress again so this will be...
