I came here with some family about a few months ago, and the experience was extremely disappointing. We ordered two salads, and one of their Cajun style pastas. The Cajun style pasta was honestly pretty disgusting, I am a big fan of these types of pastas, but this one had a really really weird tasting sauce and the noodles were overcooked .
The salads, which were supposed to have candied walnuts, goat cheese, and sun-dried tomatoes, among other things, came out as a big pile of shredded lettuce, and perhaps one other ingredient, but none of the three things mentioned above. With each one costing over $15 it was a bit shocking to get a pile of lettuce. We alerted our waiter that neither salad had come with three of the key ingredients, and she seemed totally clueless, but tried to help. She went back to the kitchen to talk with them and then came back out to for a second time ask what was wrong. We repeated the issue, and she took the salads back to the kitchen about 45 seconds later she brought them back out, having scattered a bit of goat cheese on the tops, but neither of the other two key ingredients listed on the menu. We explained that the two other star ingredients were still missing, and at this point we were pretty much done with the experience and just told her to please take them back, as they were not what the menu offered. She insisted on going back to the kitchen to talk with them yet again, despite our saying never mind on the salads, and then she came back out just to tell us that they were out of both of those ingredients? How are you going to serve a salad missing three key ingredients when you are fully out of two? We should never have been allowed to order a dish that they did not even have sourced ingredients for.
Anyway, we paid for the gross pasta and got out of there to go have an actual delicious meal next-door at San Matteo, acute Italian place with awesome interior design and delicious food, especially the lasagna. The difference in quality and flavor of the pasta dishes at San Matteo, compared to at Fedwell, is truly night and day.
The last thing I will say is that the interior design vibe of Fewell is very strange to me. It has very busy wallpaper all over the walls, and lacks any kind of visual cohesion or coziness. It felt thrown together, a bit hodgepodge. All to say, I will not be back, despite being a...
Read moreI was very excited to dine at Fedwell on Valentine's Day. The restaurant came highly recommended as a great neighborhood spot. Plus, I always love to support a local business. I debated writing this review because I know that the restaurant is fairly new, but it's almost been a week and I can't stop thinking about what a terrible experience it was. A prix-fix 3 course Valentine's menu with a complimentary glass of bubbly was being offered. Though the menu was limited, I understand the thought behind the prix-fixe menu to help manage a busy night at a restaurant where the staff it still relatively new and that's totally fine. The good: 1) the hostess was so sweet and really managed the welcome and seating experience well. 2) the desserts were very yummy! The not-so-good: 1) the complimentary glass of bubbly was a glass filled 1/3 of the way full of warmish champagne. No biggy though -- it was free so no complaints. 2) It took 35 minutes to receive a glass of wine that we ordered 3) our first course (1 warm dish -- warm yuca and endive, 1 cold dish -- a beet salad) arrived 10 minutes apart. I had finished the yuca before my husband ever received his salad. Not sure why, as it was a cold salad that could be prepared in advance. 4) Course 2 also arrived 10 minutes apart. Again, I received my shrimp dish (lukewarm, felt like it had been sitting around for a bit) and was halfway done eating before my husband's steak arrived. 5) great news - our desserts arrived together. Unfortunately, we had to wait 7 minutes to eat them because we had no utensils and it look that long for someone to bring them (yes, at this point I was keeping track of time 6) the staff -- aside from the hostess and a lovely woman who was helping to clean the tables, etc. the staff was not personable at all. No effort was made by the manager to check in with our table or apologize for the slow service and this really would have gone a long way. Our reservation was at 7pm and we did not leave until after 10pm. Unfortunately, based on this experience, we won't return or recommend Fedwell. But, I do hope they can work out the service kinks and become a...
Read moreMy family and I had the opportunity to dine at Fedwell recently, and have already been back twice. What a gem! Everything we ordered was superb. On our first visit I had the Upshur Burger. Cooked perfectly to order - juicy, tender and so flavorful with its elevated fixings, creamy cheddar, pickled onion, fresh lettuce, and luscious aioli - all served on a gorgeous glossy brioche bun. The sweet potato fries were also perfect - crispy on the outside, sweet and tender on the inside - just the right amount of salt. Perfect size portions for complete satisfaction - but too tasty to leave a single trace on the plate. The service was also on point, the atmosphere is stylish and super comfortable - music at the right volume to enjoy the vibe and still easily converse. It felt like we could take our time to relax and really enjoy the experience. We can’t wait...
