GO! First off the only thing that needs to be said is GO! Food drinks service and atmosphere were amazing but let’s get into the details. My best friend and I were next door at the Capital One Cafe and came over. Upon entry we were greeted by James with a warm welcoming smile. Immediately you could feel the hospitality and sincere desire to serve. We sat at the bar and again were greeted with a friendly smile and welcome by Darius (owner). We asked for recommendations and received some great suggestions. Darius not only gave us his favorite suggestions in terms of drinks and foods, but he explained the ingredients. He also shared the story behind the food as well as the restaurant & it’s history. Things we ordered: Margarita Flight 9/10: 3 1.5oz patron tequila curated + flavored margarita drinks strawberry, peach, and pomegranate. All of which tasted refreshing and were very well mixed. Would love to see a sugared or salted rim. But still a delightful sampler French 75 10/10: FAV because he suggested floral Hendricks vs traditional. It was so good Crab cake egg rolls 10/10: 2 whole egg rolls cut in half (so 4ths) generously stuffed with crab meat seasoned to perfection with a drizzled seafood aioli sauce that complimented the appetizer so well!!!! Please order this especially all my crab lovers Asparagus with balsamic glaze 10/10: this asparagus could not have been cooked to a better texture and flavor. It was so good a nice buttery salty balance with the balsamic. A light roasting on the asparagus heads Garlic Mash Potatoes 8/10: on the menu they’re described as home style and they are definitely made FRESH in the kitchen. You can taste every bit of the garlic yet it’s not overpowering. Light buttery finish. I personally like more butter BUT still tasty nonetheless Jerk Lamb w/ Jerk Alfredo Rigatoni 8.5/10: 4 petite lamb chops cooked to the temperature of your liking. Lightly seasoned but juicy served on top of a jerk Alfredo rigatoni with mixed peppers. So good a very healthy portion. The Alfredo sauce calmed the sting of the jerk seasoning but it’s so flavorful and robust!!! Some freshly grated Parmesan cheese or Romano cheese would have took this to the next level. But yummy. (this might be a brunch offering only) Catfish & grits (N/A) - my bestie’s dish so no rating from me. She said it was very fluffy and crunchy seasoned well. I did taste the grits and it had a chicken broth flavor. The Cajun cream sauce was good. A variety of vegetables like corn and tomatoes were present as well. Banana Pudding Cheesecake 8/10: A slice of cheesecake served with banana pudding on top and crumbled cheeseman cookies / freshly cut bananas. The cheesecake was light and airy my preference on texture! The pudding was your traditional flavor. It was good. The graham cracker crust was like moist lol and pleasing it wasn’t dry/flakey!!! My favorite part because I wasn’t not expecting that! & this received complimentary so we are so grateful for the kindness offered to us. The menu offerings are so vast and it’s a nice variety! Something for every palette. Even a vegan section =cheeseburger!!!! Which we saw and it looked delicious. During Darius’s absence attending to other guest and in the kitchen Ashley made sure we were well taken care of. They were adamant about packing the food to go. The bar packs a punch! It’s a full bar with traditional top shelf liquors and some surprising features to like different empress gins and Japanese whiskey. Flavored drinks are from purées vs syrups which I can get with! As far as atmosphere A VIBE! So genuine and authentic. Conversation with the staff or patrons came with ease. We were there Saturday afternoon and Sunday brunch hours. Me and my best friend kept saying the spirit of network is in there because we connected with other professionals during our visits and also just shared amazing experiences!!! Even there was a guest who perhaps dealt with mental health issues that the staff so kindly & graciously escorted out. Even gave a her a meal. It was so good we went back the next DAY :) GO

This place is cute and perfect for an intimate date night (or even a date with yourself which is what I did). I sat at the bar and would totally do it again. The crab cake egg rolls were absolutely amazing, I can’t recommend those enough. I also really enjoyed my blueberry lemon drop. I would go back to this place to try other items because I wasn’t in love with my entree. However, I still give this place 5/5 because it takes time to get into the swing of things as a new restaurant. Below, you’ll see my recommendations for improvements. I ONLY write this because the man at the bar encouraged me to be honest in my review. Also, major shoutout to the chef for deshelling my lobster. They usually don’t do that but I appreciate them doing it for me. Major points for them packing up my leftovers. That was impressive and I love when restaurants offer that service 10/10. Recommendations for improvements: I suggest adjusting the jerk chicken pasta recipe in 3 ways. 1. Slice the veggies smaller, the peppers and onions in my dish were really big. 2. Remove the tail of the shrimp. This place is very nice, true date night vibes. I think having the tail off the shrimp is better due to no hassle. 3. I think the actual base of the jerk pasta should be revamped. I’m not sure exactly what type of cheese is used but the pasta base was a little bitter and the seasoning on the shrimp was almost too salty. —— My last recommendation is to get crushed red pepper flakes for customers that like their food spicy. I love spicy, the jerk pasta wasn’t spicy at all and it’s a nice touch when someone ask for pepper flakes on the side that you’re able to bring it. To be honest, I usually carry a small bottle of it in my purse 😂 but I just so happen to forget this time. The bartenders were nice but weren’t super attentive. I believe this comes with time. I can tell they were busy taking care of the business of the bar (I sat at the bar and the restaurant wasn’t that busy during the time I was there). I had to continue to ask for refills for water, I got a second drink (Marion Barry) it wasn’t made right and the bartender offer to remake it. Keep in mind, I sat at the bar and he forgot to remake it 😂 it’s no worries, he took it off the bill, so no real worries there. It’s just that there wasn’t a lot of people in the restaurant so I’m shocked he forgot to remake it after he talked ME into letting him pour my drink out for him to remake it. A quick fix would have been for him to add a little more vodka (which is what I requested) because the drink taste just like syrup but it’s fine because again, I didn’t get charged for it :). I also had to continue to remind the bartender about the to-go peach cobbler. It wasn’t on my check and after we swiped it, he realized he forgot it and had to re-swipe my card. None of these things are breaking points, just examples of ways to be more attentive. Overall, I’ll be back because there’s so much to try and the place is really nice.

Kitchen Savage isn’t just another trendy spot in SE DC; it’s a community cornerstone that’s redefining what it means to run a restaurant. Nestled in the heart of the neighborhood, this eatery has quickly become a staple, not just for its mouthwatering dishes but for the impact it’s making beyond the kitchen. The chef and owner, whose passion for food is matched only by his dedication to social causes, is the driving force behind this mission. His vision is clear: to create a space where good food and good deeds go hand in hand. By investing in the roots of SE DC, Kitchen Savage has become a beacon of hope, offering opportunities for local youth and standing up for various causes that aim to better the community. But we have to get into the food. Every dish at Kitchen Savage is crafted with attention to detail. The menu is a celebration of flavor, featuring a mix of creative twists on classic dishes and innovative new offerings. The quality of the ingredients and the care taken in preparation are evident in every bite. The drinks are equally impressive, with a selection that’s both refreshing and thoughtfully curated. One of the standout aspects of the dining experience here is the chef’s approachability. He takes the time to interact with guests, ensuring that each meal is not just a transaction but a shared experience. This personal touch elevates the dining experience, making you feel more like a cherished guest than just another customer. Kitchen Savage isn’t just about food; it’s about fostering connections, nurturing the community, and making a tangible difference. Kitchen Savage is a refreshing reminder of the power of purpose-driven entrepreneurship. If you’re looking for a place that feeds not only your body but also your soul, Kitchen Savage is a must-visit. #fallynsfoodieexcursions #blackownedbusiness #southeastdc #dcrestaurants #livelaughlovetoeat #kitchensavage

Unfortunately google only allows me to reply once. This is the last time I'm replying to you! KEEP lying SIR! RELEASE THE CAMERA FOOTAGE AND GIVE BACK THE CARD YOU STOLE!!! It's that simple! You know the order of events were: The card was given for payment, it got stolen, I sat there waiting for the card to be given back, all of a sudden no one knows where the card is. You were low staff AND SOMEONE HAD JUST QUIT cause you don't know how to run an establishment. You got angry cause I said you didn't give back the card, you didn't want to take responsibility for taking it, and then you started a scene acting like my boyfriend and I didn't want to pay, and the rest is history with the cops coming to find out why in the world is this delusional man causing issues. I am perfectly fine, I can sleep at night knowing I did nothing wrong, unlike you who has to do shady things to keep yourself feeling relevant! YOU KNOW you are not telling the truth! How can someone dine and dash when they are still seated at the restaurant the WHOLE time waiting to get a card back that was stolen BY THE OWNER! PLEASE go and google the definition of dine and dash sir! At least know that! More like I got DINE and robbed and wrongly accused by a black man who is suppose to care about his own! It's SAD! You don't make any sense! YOU made someone else get involved because you are heartless and RUDE and inconsiderate, you interrupted someone's job, to have them come and handle a situation that you caused!!!!! do you not get it???? This is all your fault! I am sitting there literally begging you to just give the card back or show some interest and search. LOOK AT THE CAMERA!!!!!YOU DID NOT CARE! YOU DID NOT CHECK! Tell me in what history or even movie, do you ever see someone dine and dash ( THEN STAY AT THE RESTAURANT THE WHOLE TIME? I WAS'T EVEN FINISHED MY FOOD SIR!!!) I had to deal with all this while still trying to eat!...who would sit there and beg the person to look at the cameras if they are in the wrong? Yeah see what happens when you lie? Just looks worse for you. More than one officer saw the stupid act you pulled and i'm telling you now! You will drag that lie with you to the grave! This is beyond me, i'm telling you to change your ways and come clean because you will do something to someone else and it will not end nice! Instead of doing all this talking to me, do the right thing, we all know your only response is going to be to try to defend yourself, but i'm sorry to tell you, your reputation went down in flames the moment you decided to lie and drag this out longer than it needed to be. We all know that camera saw everything, but you probably deleted that evidence by now! So stop the lies! JUST STOP! ( YOU ALSO lied about showing the cops the footage after I left) Imagine someone has to leave their work and come back to beg you to just give their card back and your response is about how much you make? The hell? What kind of human are you? It seems like nothing will make you be honest so you can take that burden with you!!!! Now you have a good day sir! And don't respond to me, go to GOD instead and let him know you are sorry SIR! Cause he don't condone LYING!! We can go back and forth alllllll day! I said what I said and in YOUR HEART ( if you have one) you would know that what you have done is not right! I lay you and your establishment to rest! Ain't nothing more to say or do. It happened already can't go back in time, only now to have more common sense to not dine here ever again! Thanks and bye!

OWNER'S Response from the owner an hour ago: AFTER MY ORIGINAL REVIEW! You try to walk out on a bill and get upset because you lied and and not knowing the person sitting next to you were a an off duty police officer. Who witnessed the entire situation. That k you for paying your bill though. Oh, you didn't pay, you let another person pay your bill. We do condone dine and dash at our restaurant. Respect black businesses and pay your bills. ( AFTER HIS once again lying response to what happened, I posted my...

IF I COULD RATE THIS PLACE 0 STARS I WOULD!! HORRIBLE FOOD AND SERVICE!!

Absolutely appalled by the service that me and my friends all received here at this restaurant. We had a reservation for 7 and it was a surprise dinner for my friends birthday. First, we brought a cake for my friend (which we payed a $30 cake fee for) and we had it sat on the table. Maybe 15 minutes after our arrival the manager came around and took the cake off our table, didn’t say anything or greet us at all- just took the cake and left. We were all confused but we assumed that she was taking the cake and putting it away to chill while we had dinner. Then our friend arrived and we surprised him and everything went smoothly. Our waitress came around and we ordered our drinks and apps. (Our waitress was amazing btw, super attentive and great attitude.)

Our apps came out and then we ordered our entrees. Our food all came out in stages but we didn’t really mind that. I ordered the make your own pasta, and I ordered Cajun lobster which was supposed to come with garlic bread (I never received it) and I ordered roasted broccolini as an extra side. The lobster smelled heavily of fish and was tough- it didn’t even look like it was cleaned properly. The pasta was under seasoned and didn’t taste anything like Cajun spices. The broccolini was practically raw and crunchy. My fiance ordered a medium well double savage burger and it was completely raw in the middle- this sent him to the bathroom for 15 minutes as his stomach started hurting. My other friend ordered a regular savage burger and there was a hair on it (when notified the manager she basically examined it and tried to convince my friend it was just cheese and put it back in the table and told him it was “fine”) and one other friend ordered surf and turf with his lobster being way better than mines and the steak being fully cooked yet raw in other parts. 2 entrees were fine expect for my friend didn’t receive cornbread like she asked. When notified they told her it would take 20 minutes so she declined.

Obviously we all pretty much sent our food back to the kitchen to be remade and because of multiple complaints the manager came back around with the owner and he addressed everything. Off the bat he had a horrible attitude, talking over us and raising his voice. He addressed all of us like children and mansplained to my fiance how a burger works and how when you order it that way it’s going to be raw (my fiance works for a burger place he understand how all that works) The owner said that since your burger has been on the table for 30 minutes he wasn’t going to take it off the check. My fiance was in the bathroom sick for half of that and that’s why he didn’t bring it up until after. He then tried to explain to me like I’m a preschooler how you should state how you want your broccolini cooked and there was nothing we could do about it. Never have I ever had to state how broccolini or any vegetable should be cooked. At this point our night was ruined and we just wanted to leave. We asked for the check and when we received it it was still $454!! We realized they still have items on there that they SAID they would take off and I’m sure they upcharged us for drinks and food as well. After they “fixed” it one last time it was still $430. We just wanted to leave so we went ahead and payed and left.

Overall, the professionalism was NONEXISTENT and the owner nor the manager tried to take any responsibility or accountability for anything. They never apologized for anything and didn’t even offer to comp us for anything we had a grievance with. Horrible attitudes, horrible food and horrible atmosphere. I overheard how they treat their staff with disrespect and it’s sad that this small business has service as such. We should’ve read the reviews before coming and I hope others do the same. To the owner, I truly do wish you the best for your business. What you give is what you receive so I hope you see the light and God guides you down the right path. Have a...
