7/19/25 update:
I decided to revisit Timeout Market with friends. The last time I was here, I found some great eats and had an enjoyable experience. This time around, I found the food kind of meh overall. I tried some food from Gutenburg, QXY Mini, and Bar Goa. Service is standard for a food hall. Overall, it’s a 2.5-3 out of 5 for me. If you never had some of these ethnic foods before (not the American version), then you might think everything is great. If you have, then you will find some disappointment.
-Gutenburg - chicken schnitzzel sandwich 4 - it tastes just like a regular schnitzel and that truffle aioli sauce was good. I took away a star because it started to get dry in the middle. -QXY Mini - wagyu beef and onion 3 - not worth $21. You can’t even taste the wagyu. You’re better off saving that $5 and getting either pork or chicken. -Bar Goa - Goan chicken curry 2. I’ve been to real Indian cafes and restaurants. This one is pretty much like watered down Indian food for Americans. Seasonings are not robust and lack flavor. I knew something was up when the food was already finished.

I love going to these food courts/markets. They’re not your typical food court that you find at the mall, these are actually good quality food. Timeout’s prices are pretty standard since I’ve gone to similar ones in other cities. Yes you will find a lot of people especially during lunch/dinner time. This is located in West Loop. Parking wise, you can find some street parking as well as on the app Spot Hero. I tried different items. Service was great at each stall. Didn’t have to wait long. Plenty of seating on both levels. Some of these items may not be on the current menus.
-Southern Gent (6 wings on waffle) 5/5 - nice, savory flavor. Chicken wings were perfectly seasoned. Meat was succulent. Waffle was very tasty. Good size portion. -Emparogis 5/5 - very flavorful. Portions are large and shareable. Taste great with the sauce. -Kielbasa perro 5/5 - meal on its own. I love the combination of flavors on one plate. -Colombian cola 5/5 - not as sugary as Pepsi...
Read moreI’ve come to Time Out Market several times to check this place out and to kill time while I waited for my reservation at a bar nearby but it was my first time trying the food here. We came here on a Saturday afternoon so it was very loud and crowded. It wasn’t hard to find seats for 2 though - there were plenty of open seats and there is also a space upstairs. I really loved the atmosphere and the energy in this place. It was very bright inside, filled by filtered sunlight from skylight roof. There are big screens showing the activities to do in the neighborhood and in Chicago and a bar. You get a buzzer after you order your food and it will buzz when it’s ready.
There are many options to choose from and the price was fair for the portion we were getting. Polombia is right at the entrance that serves Polish X Colombian fusion food. We got Sal-Chi-Papa and Peanut Butter & Jam Paczki. Sal-Chi-Papa is a simple dish with everyday ingredients, basically just potato and sausage. But they found a way to make it so visually pleasing, yummy, and filling. The sauce was a main character of the dish but didn’t steal the spotlight. The Paczki was kind of dry and tough like bread. The jam was probably blueberry jam and there was a lot more peanut butter than jam.
We also got Chicken and sausage gumbo from Luella’s Southern Kitchen (a Mardi Gras pop up). There wasn’t much rice in there and it felt like instant rice. It tasted really good and my boyfriend thought it was spicy (not to me though). There was also a lot of sausage but only 1 piece of chicken that can be seen in my picture. I was a bit disappointed about that but I still...
