Me and my family just relocated down to San Antonio and we have gone to so far two other black owned restaurants and we plan on going to every one of them out here. Well we decided to try this place for the first time and literally got a little bit of everything on the menu. Altogether we spent over $80. We got home and set the table and we began to eat the food. We got two oxtail plates and a fried chicken plate. It was absolutely disappointing! Starting off with the sides…. Mashed potatoes were very thick and bland luckily we were at home so I was able to add in some butter and a sprinkle of salt. The greens had no flavor whatsoever and the macaroni was over boiled noodles with some cheese sauce that had a bit of flavor. The yams were my favorite item out of everything we got. The cornbread just a complete mess a straight brick of bread. It was burnt on top dried out completely no moisture no flavor just a brick of bread. Now the main course the oxtails with rice and gravy you pay $26 for this plate and it came with 1 big ol oxtail and we all know oxtail is mostly fat so you should get more than 1 and it was just overly salted it was one spoon of rice and gravy everywhere. It’s like you paid for a box of gravy lol. What amazes me is the fried chicken……. Lord have mercy and I advised anyone with high blood pressure or kidney problems to stay away from this place that damn chicken tasted like they spilled the entire can of salt on the 3 pieces alone and nothing else I literally took one bite spit it out and threw the entire plate away. Just a damn waste of my time money and playing with my hunger. The peach cobbler was good and I don’t like most peach cobblers but that was very good. The banana pudding very very overly sweetened. It had a good flavor but just entirely way too sweet like you can feel the sugar just taking over your body it had potential I wanted to add some milk to it and calm the sugar down but I just threw it away everything got thrown away. I would definitely not recommend this place to anyone. Now Mr.C’s fried chicken and waffles is very good it’s a bit of a drive but this is where we usually go but it was very packed this day so we decided to try a new black owned place. Well we can mark this location off the list and forget about them. I’ve never had supposedly soul food this bad from a black owned buisness ever and I have been to a few states. This place needs some serious help in...
Read moreI am one who believes in second chances, but this is a double strike, I believe your hostesses are like ushers in church, they set the mood for a person's worship experience from the door, and both visits were very cold, snobbish and with a tangy attitude!! My first visit after I found out you have to seat yourself, the darker lady (hostess) comes and asks, "what you gonna have?" I finally get my plate after about 15mins and before I can tell her my order was not complete she walks off, I bless my food and started to taste, food is cold! I try to get her attention twice, she walks past me and go sits at the register, another lady comes past and ask if everything is ok, I tell her I didn't get my mac and cheese, she brings it and is called by another patron, I try again to raise the attention of one of the other hostesses, it's like I was invisible, I finally get the attention of the 1st lady and when I saw the irritation in her face I just asked for to go containers for my cold food and drink, she tossed the to go plate on the table as she kept walking, I sat for another 7mins to get a cup for my drink which the bright complected young brought a new drink to go with a smile. This visit which was a take out, I paid more and got less!! I met the owners when they first opened at the other location, they were very nice people and the people that worked for them were very polite and served you with a smile. I would pass out their menu's to everyone and drop them off at every church i fellowship with. I am now hesitant to refer or take certain of my friends or colleagues there knowing how picky they are when it comes to customer service. I do hope they give that young lady some indepth customer service training, she really needs it. Also going outside to smoke then returning to your duties without going to the back to wash your hands is disrespectful....

Read moreSo a friend of mine sent me a tik tok of someone getting food from here the other day. I have not had any real soul food in a while so i had to go check it out. I got there a little after they opened. They don't typically have a two meat plate but i told the waitress i wanted to try two different things so she got me a fried chicken plate and then a pork chop separate. The pork chop was good but it could have used some gravy my fault for not asking for it but i think it world be better if it was a smothered pork chop but that's just my opinion.
Now let's talk about this fried chicken. It was some of the crispiest fried chicken i have ever had!! The breading had flavor without it being over-breaded. It had a real crunch to it. And it was fresh!!! Seriously so good!!! I am glad i don't live on this side of town or i would get fried chicken from them every day. The sides were good i had mac and cheese and it was an actual baked mac and cheese that had good flavor. The mash potatoes were good a little over whipped but still had good flavor with the gravy.
I got a plate for my friend she got the same except she got fried okra which she loved she said it was great because the okra was fresh. She also got green beans which i tried. They were simple but good. Just like my mom makes with some bacon grease in it. The cornbread was a bit dense so it wasn't light and fluffy... but it had a ton of flavor so i was good with that. So to whoever said it was dry...is crazy.
We both are raving about the chicken though we are both about to be in a food coma... lol
Overall we got a great amount of food for a very reasonable price. (I did not remember to take a picture of my friends plate but it was stuffed to the gills)
If you like good fried chicken or just good food in general...check this place out even though i don't live on this side of town i will go back for some more fried...
