During my husbands very first visit, (i had actually been her once before, and being rather disappointed with the first, I wanted to give it another try) my husband ordered the potato pancakes and kielbasa combo. The food was fair, until he had unearned a rather medium, curly hair from the depths of his food. After noticing, He made the server aware of his issue, while stating that he could not continue to eat his entree, and (in my opinion) understandably didn't want to order another entree, for fear of the same thing happening. My husband has worked in numerous restaurants, and once a cleanliness issue is discovered, he no longer wants to dine there. And worst of all, the server didn't even seem all that concerned with the issue. Even pointing out after the fact that she couldn't take my food off our bill, only mine because i was the one who found the hair, but I could no longer gut wanting to even eat it after what he experienced. This is terrible customer service. Anyone with an ounce of skill in that department would've made sure that even though we were ! leaving hungry, we didn't leave with an angry feel about our experience. And after all that, both entrees were removed from our bill, but we still had to pay for the drinks, soup, and side we ordered. 10 dollars for absolutely nothing basically. the soup wasn't touched, and the side order was barely touched because it was received in close time of our entrees. Also, my husband is a type 1 diabetic, and as such, He’s required to take a dose of insulin with every meal. The amount of carbs he was EXPECTING to consume during the meal, made it so he took a rather large dose of medication. Worst dining experience I've ever had. And i really hope the 10 dollars they made off of my husband and I and was worth the bad reviews, and the bad word of mouth that will be spread about this...
Read moreI remember going her in my childhood, and loving it. My family is Polish and I have fond memories of family recipes - this place at the time was the only place that made City Chicken like my Oma.
Today, the food is still good, the atmosphere is okay... the decor isn't fancy and maybe never was, there's a good amount of Polish decor on the walls but overall it had a regular diner vibe.
The Food was mostly as remembered - but much costlier and the menus had this little sticker up top saying add $2 more to everything... so after all that, our trip for a nice good (moderately priced) dinner was suddenly over $40 for two small entrees (pierogi plate, $5 side of saurkraut, lunch portion of 2 city chicken w/ 2 sides, bread basket with EXACTLY 2 pieces of bread in it). It just didn't seem like a good value at all, the pierogi were great but some of the smallest i've ever had, the city chicken ditto - i think the dinner portion if the sides are the same would still feel overpriced.
So overpriced food then, but on top of this, our server did her best to communicate that she didn't care much about anything, disappearing for 20 minutes, not offering dessert, ready to sweep us out the door.
I don't recommend coming here. Maybe for takeout if you don't mind a premium for mini pierogi. There are better places just a few miles north, east, and south i'd...
Read moreIt was very disappointing reading the reviews for Polonus. After reading the menu on line we decided to treat ourselves to dinner out. One of the dishes we ordered was Hungry Pole Fest with a nice variety including stuffed cabbage. My Grandma's signature dish was stuffed cabbage and I hadn't had that dish since she passed. (Last June would of been her 100 years on this Earth). Detroit once was a beautiful city and she along with Terry Sawchuck's wife, made tons of stuffed cabbage for the Block Parties they often had. Polonus would benefit greatly to start supplying their restaurant with fresh ingredients. Everything served was from a can. Canned green beans, canned sauerkraut... Just flavorless mush. The canned tomato sauce on top of the stuffed cabbage was such a tiny amount it was almost as if it was spread on with a butter knife. The cabbage was thinner then paper. I could barely taste it. The meat was very bland cooked paste. I described it to friends as food from The Great Depression. Or canned goods stored in old Bomb shelters. There are many farmers market and distributors in this era... Polonus should be easily upgrading the quality of their dishes. I hope that they do because they have a nice menu. Makes me wonder if they spent that money on ingredients instead of false reviews, their business would...
