One of the best memorials I have ever visited and a great tribute and memorial to one of the greatest human beings India has ever seen. A memorial to a selfless and and most simple man who went on to become the President of India and rightly so. A person loved by all got a memorial befitting to the noble soul also known as the missile man of India. A great sense of emotion gets you as you go near his tomb or burial site and we see people of all walks of life and religious backgrounds getting emotional and just kneeling at the site of his burial in total humility and respect for Dr APJ Kalam. I too was really touched when i went close to the burial site. A well maintained place and with good security. Beautiful paintings with great leaders and Heads is state abound the memorial complex. A replica of the missile too is kept at the memorial. A few of his favourite belongings too are kept at the memorial and the golden violin is a beauty. Great moments of India’s defence diaries are replicated in this memorial. Very nicely done and very well maintained. Timings are from 9 to 6, 7 days a week. Please ensure you don’t carry any bags or backpacks and would advice to leave it in the car or in safe custody with somebody. The place provided to keep your personal belongings does not have any security and you will have to keep your stuff at your own risk. Cameras are not allowed and mobile phones have to be switched off before getting into the memorial. While getting into the memorial footwear should be removed, therefore sandals or slippers are the best way in. Located a few kilometres from Rameshwaram town you cannot miss this place. A Visit to this place is a must in reverence to a great and wonderful person also the President of our country. May His Soul Rest In Peace 🙏

One of the must-visit attractions in Rameswaram is Dr A P J Abdul Kalam’s memorial that pays homage to India’s former president, leader, renowned scientist and inspiring personality, loved and admired by many. Spread over 2.11 acres of land, the Abdul Kalam Memorial was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2017. The Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) initiated the construction of the memorial to pay tribute to India’s missile man. Construction of the memorial began on the burial ground where Dr Kalam was laid to rest in 2015. The memorial has been structured through careful planning, taking into consideration Dr Kalam’s interests and likes. The entrance of the main gate looks similar to the India Gate, which also has a touch of the Chettinad style resembling the door of Brihadeeswarar Temple in Thanjavur. The main dome is a replica of the Rashtrapathi Bhavan. There is also a bronze statue of Dr Kalam playing the veena. The memorial consists of four halls that reflect various facets of Dr Kalam’s life, including the Pokhran atomic test. There are replicas of rockets, missiles and paintings all of which highlight his association with the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO). The garden outside the memorial resembles a Mughal Garden and is decorated with plants brought from Bangalore, Andhra Pradesh and Telengana. There are also other hand picked blossoms that accord with Dr Kalam’s taste. This exemplary memorial and the well-thought-out efforts behind each segment was completed only in 25 days’ time. The second phase of the memorial will incorporate a library, a planetarium and an auditorium

This is an absolutely austere, yet elegantly designed memorial fitting the personality of the frugal and humble people's President, Dr Kalam. The design is carefully thought out with the Rashtrapati dome replica and a missile on display. DRDO has done a fabulous job of building and maintaining this memorial. The layout walks one through all the rooms before exiting with no criss-crosses. The memorial is uncluttered, spacious and the statue of the President playing the Veena placed at the centre is excellent. The place captures the essence of the person with life-size statues of Dr Kalam with world leaders and flying the air force aircraft. His simple personal belongings are neatly enclosed in glass cases along with the distinguished awards, including Bharat Ratna. The dome and chandeliers are particularly brilliant. Photography and personal belongings are not permitted. A locker outside is a must near the place where footwear is to be kept before entering. The washrooms are closed, presumably due to Covid, but that forces people to look for not so sanitary washrooms nearby. The walk around the memorial also displays his love for children and the garden inside the memorial is worth mentioning. It reminds one of the Japanese gardens, with minimalism as the theme and is an apt tribute to the love of gardens which Dr Kalam had. One thing which needs to be done is to bring his personal books which are stacked in his ancestral home here. A silent prayer and a bow before the tomb is involuntary in most people visiting this towering leader of our great nation.
