Must visit place if you are in Lansdowne. This place is 1 hr drive (35 Kms) from Lansdowne Deriya khal/Gounu where maximum resorts are located. Nice place to explore. The drive was so mesmerizing as you will be in the cloud if you are lucky. Whole journey from resort to the temple is like you want to stop again and again to click the photos. We stayed on the route in return and cooked the maggie. Really it was best time in whole two days vacation. Pics attached here for your reference. The temple is situated in the valley surrounded by lush green deodar trees. This place is full of positive energy where you can enjoy whole day and you will never feel bored. Mandir bell sounds like you are in heaven. This temple is 1500 years old and very old story behind this. According to the legend, Tarkasur was a demon who meditated and worshiped Lord Shiva at this location for a boon. Pleased by his devotion, Lord Shiva gave him a boon of immortality as per Tarkasur request except from Lord Shiva's son. Tarkasur started being evil by killing saints and threatening gods. Sages asked for help from Lord Shiva. Disturbed by wrongdoings of Tarkasur, Lord Shiva married Parvati and Kartikeya is born. Kartikeya soon killed Tarkasur but at the time of death Tarkasur makes prayer to Lord Shiva and asked for pardon. Mahadev then attached his name to the temple where Tarkasur meditated once. Hence the place named as Tarkeshwar Mahadev. We had a great time over here. Everything was so pure. I loved this place and beautiful environment here. Tarkeshwar temple and ashram 40km above from Lansdowne

One of the best place for a calm composed mind set up I have ever visited.

Suitable for: This is a religious area for worship and meditation purpose. (Not really meant for showing off romance or having a fun party kind of area....
