I enjoyed a lovely few hours at The Eastern side of the Headlands Beach park in early September, a few days ago. We checked out both sides of the park, the western "big beach" and the eastern protected dunes/marsh. Had a picnic in the shade of the beautiful cottonwood trees before going out on the boardwalk to get to the sand. It was a longer walk than I expected for me with my walker, but a nice stroll for most people. I so wanted to take the right hand path to the lighthouse, but it's like a deer trail. Not for someone needing wheels! The beach was nice, but the deck with the binoculars no longer has it's overhead structure. I don't know why they took it down. Again beautiful day, and fun to watch families playing at the beach. After talking to some other visitors, we checked out the western main beachy area to see the three sand sculptures from the sand castle building contest beck in August. It's amazing they are still there. There is a blue tarp runway out towards the water for easier walking (or walkers line mine) but I didn't go all the way out. Looking forward to going back. I feel lucky to live near such a great beach and lake.

One of the nicest beaches in Cleveland area with wildlife reservation and lighthouse nearby for those interested in something more then just the beach. Great place for family and friends gatherings and picknics. Planty of room to play beach games and sports. There are some grills available in the park (not on the beach) in case you decide to do some bbq. The majority of the beach has soft sand, but the waterline (about 10 feet from the water) is covered with small rocks, so be prepared and have some appropriate footware if desired. The only thing that is asking for improvement, is the signage to make easier to locate the entrance/exit from the beach to the parking lots. It is difficult to find the path out of the beach through the treeline. The bottom line, this is a great place to spend a nice sunny summer day with a company or even alone!

This is an expansive park with a deep beachfront. There are many picnic tables and restrooms. Left of the entrance, is where most of the beach access is, along with several parking areas. This place was built with large crowds in mind. If you venture to the right and head to the end, you'll reach a large tree filled grass part of the park. Toward the beach and still to the right, is a sandy trail that leads to the beach. There is also a cove on the other side of the stone barrier, where boats can pull into. Along the trail, you can head to the left on an adjoining trail. We've seen large sand sculptures in the summer and there seem to be activities throughout that time of year. Every time we go, its a different adventure. Bear and Cosmo have been enjoying this place for many years, as well as us. 🏖🏞

Beautiful Large beach! Beautiful sunsets. This is by far our favorite Lake Erie beach. Lots of room to spread out here, picnic areas in parking lot and off parking lot, flushable toilets, working sinks, changing area in bathroom, wash off sand area outside, there is a concession stand not sure open hours, Tons of parking, mostly clean beach, I'd say it's one of the top 3 clean ones in Ohio so far. Can swim, no lifeguard. Long walk to water but no stairs so a plus. Lots of sand, there are rocks closer to shore, I personally wear the water shoes walking along shore just my personal comfort you can walk barefoot though it's not awful. Some Beach glass here & there. On other side of light house its Fairport beach I think they do have life guards, also clean & nice. Definitely worth the trip!

We picked up hotdogs to go from Scooter's Dawg House which is only about 5 minutes down the street. This was the perfect place to bring our food for dinner. The parking lot seemed crowded, but we didn't have any issues staying away from people. There were a lot of picnic tables in the grass around the parking lot. They were all spaced out and no one was around. After dinner, we walked along the trail behind the beach for a bit. I'm not sure how long it is, but it seemed pretty long. What a nice addition to the beach. We didn't stay long after dinner because no one walking around had on masks (even when they were close together). If you can manage to stay away from people, this is a great place to spend some time outside.

This beach is a classic. It is not as clean or well maintained as nearby Fairport Harbor, but you don't have to pay to park at Headlands. I have never seen the concession stand actually open. The beach is very long, with lots of room on the sand. Great place for a lengthy walk along the beach. There are plenty of metal charcoal grill stations and picinic tables (the tables are a bit old). There are also nice restrooms. I'm a life long resident of the area and can honestly say there is nothing else in Ohio quite like this beach. I give it only four stars because the park is slightly run down. I think this park should be treated by the park service like the absolute gem it could be. Definitely worth a visit!
