Matang is truly amazing place. As a former volunteer to this centre, i can understand why some people come, see animals locked in cages, and get upset or think its a bad place. Its a common misconception. Majority of these animals live in enclosures because they cannot be reintroduced into the wild. Some of them rescued from illegal pet trades/circuses, some of them injured, etc. If these animals were let free, they wouldnt make it on their own. They haven't developed the skills to do so. Matang tries to provide a happy, stimulating life for these animals, and people dedicate their lives to this. Some of the animals are actually rehabilitated and released back into the wild as well. Its all circumstantial. It depends on any given animals' individual story/situation whether this animal will one day see the jungle again. Unfortuantely this isnt always the case, and yes, its sad to see animals locked up. But please consider what got the there in the forst place before critiquing. If you have any question about any animal, ask a staff member. Theyll be glad to explain the animal's story, why theyre there, and so forth.

A place that has seen better days. Would not recommend Matang Wildlife Centre to anyone until significant improvements are made. It was a disappointing experience at Matang Wildlife Centre. The facilities are dilapidated, with rotting wood and rusty cages, making it a sad and cruel environment for the animals. The entrance fees for non-Malaysians are steep (RM20/adult, RM7/child) considering the poor conditions. It's not worth the trip. This place is in desperate need of proper sponsorship and investment to improve the conditions and care for the animals. Instead of collecting entry fees, they would be better off collecting donations to improve the centre and provide a better life for the animals. I hope the fees collected are used to improve the safety and wellbeing of the animals. We only ended up here because we missed the last entry to Kubah National Park (note: last entry is at 11am).

This wildlife centre has wild animals such as urangutan, crocodiles, hornbill, sun bear, monkey and many more. The enviroment for these animals is different from zoo. Here animals treated nearly same as their habitat in jungle or river. Animal also more active and agresive compare to other contain area like in zoo. Smoking prohibited except at designated area. This is to avoid animal cannot smell fruits or their food. Be carefull when walking inside or nearby animal cage. The renjers is friendly and will explain details about these animals. Foods and drinks also prohibited except mineral water. Parking not an issue here. Please wear proper attire such as sport shoe, jeans or long pant and bring along adequate mineral water. Tour will be ended around 1 hour.

I went with my family on christmas day 2016. It was raining heavily. We brought umbrellas. The plankwalk was slippery. The animals are in cages so it felt like a zoo. The entire area is situated in a rainforest. The toilet at the admin office is clean but not the toilet on your way back to the carpark. The steps to the toilet is covered with green moss and very slippery. Whilst appreciating the effort done to care for the animals, much more can be improved. With more budget and better planning the animals can be placed in better and more spacious enclosures. Like the ones I've seen on youtube in developed countries. Soft ground with grass rather than hard cement. A wonderful experience 😊

Eek I wouldn’t normally write a negative review but given lots of people risk going out of their way to visit this park, I have a few warnings: - Closed 12-2 each day - They won’t let you in without full shoes (not sandals) - Cash only - practically impossible to get a Grab taxi from there (although very easy to get there!) so maybe ask your driver to wait since it’ll be a quick visit… The park itself is very small and has a tiny number of enclosed animals. We saw three Orangutans within an enclosure, three sun bears and some birds. I didn’t go to any other parks so can’t say if this is a typical experience for the parks…but quite disappointing

Rundown and dilapidated venue. The staff do their best to keep this place in shape and to a decent standard of safety for the animals. It has been really hard to watch the orangutan and the other species just sitting and waiting for someone to pay attention to them. We were the only visitors on this day. We came in Early January with a specialised guide. I’d recommend to prepare yourself for some surprises and also many disappointments. If you only have few days in the area, I’d suggest you go for a hike in the nearby reserve. I am rooting for the staff working there but I wish they had more findings to get this place a full refurbishment.
