The Bell Tower of Xi'an, standing majestically in the heart of the Zhonglou District, encapsulates the rich history and architectural splendor of Xi'an, China. This iconic structure, a testament to ancient Chinese ingenuity, is not merely a tower but a living chronicle of the city's past. As the sun sets, the Bell Tower transforms into a mesmerizing spectacle, bathed in radiant lights that highlight its intricate details. The night unveils a different dimension of its beauty, creating a breathtaking panorama that captivates both locals and tourists alike. Beyond its aesthetic allure, the Bell Tower carries the weight of historical significance. In bygone eras, it served a practical purpose—announcing the time at dawn to the bustling city. Its timekeeping function was not only utilitarian but also a cultural cornerstone, influencing the rhythm of daily life for the city's inhabitants. Ascending the tower, one is treated to panoramic views of Xi'an's urban landscape. The juxtaposition of ancient and modern structures tells a story of a city that has gracefully embraced the winds of change while safeguarding its historical roots. Visiting the Bell Tower is more than a tourist experience; it's a journey through time. Each step echoes with the footsteps of those who have come before, connecting the present with the city's storied past. Exploring its surroundings, one encounters lively markets, quaint shops, and a vibrant atmosphere that mirrors the dynamic spirit of Xi'an. My visits to the Bell Tower, often with friends enchanted by its allure, have been moments of contemplation and admiration. Its architectural grandeur and cultural resonance make it an indispensable gem in the heart of Xi'an. Whether under the golden hues of the sun or the ethereal glow of night, the Bell Tower remains a beacon, guiding travelers through Xi'an's historical narrative.

The entrance was a little confusing though. The underground signs say Exit 7, but actually the more accurate location should be the exit from metro Line 2 escalator (as one comes up from metro platform to the roundabout exits). The ticketing area is an automated self-service one but requires a local ID so I had to ask the staff for help and she used her ID to bypass the system for me. Later realised I could have just bought it on the CTrip app too, since the automated system uses Ctrip's system too. The prices are the same. Entrance fees are CNY30 per tower or CNY50 for both. The entrance to the Bell Tower is just beside the ticketing area. Followed the path through security checks and finally made it to the Bell Tower, which sits in the middle of the city in a roundabout. The Bell Tower was critical in the past to indicate time. Hence, there are a number of such similar towers in other cities such as Beijing. Today, it's more of a historic presence and showcase of ancient finess in architecture and construction. The architectural structure, the drawings within, the construction of such a huge bell.

Easily the coolest Bell Tower I saw while in China, and I saw a whole bunch after living in China for a year. Nearly 700 years old (although it was moved to its present location about 500 years ago), it is beautifully designed. Inside the drum tower there is a nice museum explaining the history of the Bell Tower with photographs (and English translations), as well as some neat artifacts dating back even further than the tower itself. Although visible from across any corner of the streets it intersects, the tower can only be entered through the underground tunnels leading to the subway. Cost is very much in line with most similarly historic sites in China, and they do sell a combined Bell and Drum Tower ticket which offers a discount over buying each individually. If you're in Xi'an, you should absolutely visit this place

Bell Tower is more central, and if you are into taking costume photography, this is the place. Many professional photographers set up mobile spots for you to take your dream photo against the backdrop of Bell Tower, which is used as a traffic round-about. You can also see many social media live-streamers rattling off whatever they are covering or selling. They are talented and so natural rattling off stiff without script!. There is a mall in front of the Bell Tower where you can visit after taking in the sight of Bell Tower. Between the Bell Tower and the Drum Tower, the Bell Tower is more vibrant in our opinion, but the Drum Tower is not to loose out too as it is link to a food street I.e. Huimin Street.

The Bell Tower of Xi'an (simplified Chinese: 西安钟楼; traditional Chinese: 西安鐘樓; pinyin: Xī'ān Zhōnglóu), built in 1384 during the early Ming Dynasty, is a symbol of the city of Xi'an and one of the grandest of its kind in China. The Bell Tower also contains several large bronze-cast bells from the Tang Dynasty. The tower base is square and it covers an area of 1,377 m2 (14,820 sq ft). The tower is a brick and timber structure and close to 40 m (130 ft) high. It is located in the center of Xi'an, at the intersection of the four streets of the east, west, south and north. It is the largest and most preserved one amongst the many bell towers left over from ancient China.

A good tourist destination in Xi'an and it is made special by the exquisite cuisine street just along side it. This tower can be accessed from any of the nearest buses or subway and has four different entrances. I would not recommend buying a ticket for going on the top though. There isn't anything special up there. The street food along side is just fantastic! You should try different snacks, pomegranate juice (one of the Xi'an special), the process of making the sugar. P.S: The beauty of this tower comes out at night! Do visit it at night and you will be amazed.
