Koteshwara Mahadev temple is located in remote area of Rudraprayag on the bank of River Alakananda. Distance between Koteshwara temple and Rudraprayag confluence is @ 10 km. We have visited Rudraprayag confluence and had Darshan of Rudraprayag Shiva temple. After coming from Rudraprayag confluence we have hired vehicle to visit Koteshwara temple and return back to same place. This place is presumed to be the same spot where lord Shiva had stopped for meditation on his way to Kedarnath. Koteshwar Mahadev temple is situated in a Cave which is naturally formed. It is believed that if a Childless couple whole Heartly chants the Maha Mrityunjaya mantra the entire Sravan month, then they will get blessed with children.

Koteshwar Mahadev Temple which is situated at a distance of 2 to 3 kms from Rudraprayag. This is a very ancient temple. It is said that the temple here is more ancient than the Kedarnath temple. Lord Mahadev meditated here and there is a natural Shivling here which is believed to be the replica of Lord Bholenath. Its specialty is that it is a different type of Shivling. This is a completely transparent Shivling. When you look at it carefully, you will feel good inside it. As the water of Ganga ji is flowing and different energy flows from inside it. There is Ganga ji near it, which once in a year goes to the place where Shivling is inside this cave, offering its water there.

A very nice place, people should come to this place ahead of Rishikesh Haridwar, you will get to see immense peace and wonderful view here. The river coming out between the two mountains creates an awe-inspiring sight. You can also see the natural Shivling in the cave here, where the divine feeling is experienced. I have seen many people and children getting their heads shaved here, they were shedding those hairs in the river itself, this is very wrong, a pond can be made where these hairs can be flowed. To pollute the river in any way is to insult its sanctity, then what are these people worshipping? Temple administration should interfere in this

Koteshwar Mahadev, Uttrakhand 🔱 It is a Hindu temple dedicated to Shiva, and is located approximately 3 kilometres from the Rudraprayag, Uttarakhand, a little above the Alaknanda River. The location is presumed to be the spot where God Shiva had stopped for meditation on his way to Kedarnath. According to local legends the temple has existed since the time of Bhasmasura. This was the demon who turned to ashes anyone whose head he touched. Shiva went into hiding to escape this threat, resting in various places before coming to the cave at Koteshwar Mahadev. Shiva rested here. .
