Lovely walk to the top of this hill, very accessible for kids. The whole walk took us about 2.5 hours from the car park in Hawkshead with kids ages 8 & 10. If you watch which path you take there’s a nice gentle, steady climb up through the woods, then a steeper more direct route back down and across farm fields. Can be muddy and I’d recommend decent walking shoes as the route down is stoney. Stunning views from the top, usually you have to climb a lot higher to get this sort of panorama,...

The path from the South (leading off the main path to Hawkshead) meanders and rises and falls more than the map suggests. There is another path off the summit (heading SE or SSE) clearly marked on the OS map which appears to no longer be accessible Plenty to explore. Read moreOverlooking Hawkshead and Windermere is Latterbarrow. Someone we met at the Sun Inn in Hawkshead over a pint of Swan Blond recommended this hike. We were based about 20 minutes from there and took the footpaths which are mostly helpful, except when there aren't any! Took the route that included a steep scramble to get to the top, before finding a more gentle way to descend. Worth it though, great views, good cardio workout, and then back to the pub for a well earned beer.
