As history says one of the oldest fossils found here. It's said fossils are 150cr year old, if you are traveling sonebhadra you must visit, ideally it will not take more than half n hour to visit, only thing it's not properly maintained, at starting Fossils are covered by fence, local said guard is having key and if you ask he will open the lock and you can view from inside.only thing if you lucky than you will find guard, as we were there for almost 3hr but guard didn't turn up It's approx 1.5km from main road.but that 1.5km road are not maintained. I think authority shoud maintain this and promote as tourist destination.

Dear all, This is Salkhan Fossil Park also known as Sonbhadra fossil park, situated in sonbhadra district of UP near Varanasi. This park known as fossil park because the fossils present in this park are nearly 1.5 Billion year old or more. Still while roaming their local people told us that initially this is nearly flat but now these fossils are growing as you seen in pictures the upright structures. Mainly their is stromatolites present hence the rings are present as stromatolites are layered sedimentary formations. The park is spread about 25 Ha in Kaimoor Wildlife range. Hope you like it and visit this place once 👍

It's in Salkhan, in Chopan Area. Just along side the road. It's on the left hand side if you are travelling from Shakti nagar to Robertsgunj. It is on your right hand side if you are travelling from Robertsgunj to ShaktiNagar. You can drive car/bike here to the viewpoint. To sit there is a shed built by forest department. You can touch and feel fossils. If you are a scientist or research scholar ask the guard to open the gate. One can visit the place anytime in year but avoid in rainy season.

fossils found in the Sonbhadra Salkhan Fossils Park are algae and stromatolites types of fossils. These have scientific importance. These fossils are 150 crore years old. This place has abundant fossils more than those present in Yellowstone national park of America but the place is totally neglected by UP Govt. This place is around 3 km offhighway but the connecting road is very poor. Visit only when you have interest in such things otherwise nothing so special for common man.
