The Broad River Greenway is nice place to take a walk, swim, have a picnic, or go horseback riding. We love to take our dogs to the Broad River Greenway in the evenings during the week in spring and fall when the sun is starting to set so that they can run around and go for a dip in the water. If you are not in the mood to swim there are several sandy areas at the edge of the water where you can relax. You can find parking and easily access the water on both sides of the river. The greenway can get really busy and fairly crowded on a hot NC weekend when people are looking for an escape from the heat and humidity. There some covered areas with tables and a few small grills that are available for a picnic or cookout. There are restrooms available at the parking area of the greenway. The Broad River Greenway is free for residents of Cleveland County, NC. Non-residents are asked to pay $5 a day using a trust system where you place your money in an envelope and into a drop box when you enter the greenway. There's an extensive system of trails for horseback riding that range from trails that are less than a half mile to over two miles long. The reason I gave the Broad River Greenway 4 stars instead of the full 5 has less to do with the greenway and more to do with some of the disgusting individuals that visit it and can't be bothered to clean up their own trash. The greenway works to keep the park clean and there are trash cans available throughout the greenway but for some reason there are people that still leave trash and debris laying around. During our most recent visit to the greenway there was also quite a bit of broken glass on the ground near the main parking area. If you visit the greenway please pick up after yourself and don't leave trash laying around when there's a trash can less than 10' away. There have been several near drownings at the greenway recently so be careful! Don't let the tranquility make you forget about the power and pull of the water. Otherwise, spend some time outside, be SAFE, and enjoy nature's beauty (then clean up after yourself)!

This is an awesome resource for the folks in the area and beyond. Plenty of trails, some with decent elevation gain, most relatively flat. Good for hiking, trail running, and horses. Biking is ok, but sandy spots make it less fun for me than other activities, but that's just my opinion. Several great swimming holes and decent fishing spots. Parking lot has plenty of room on most days and the facilities are top notch. Absolutely recommend checking this place out if you're in the area.

The park near the ranger station is very nice. There are bathrooms and even has a handicap accessible parking area. The trails are made up of mostly dirt and small stones that lead to a fishing pier. There are things to see along the trail and even a cabin from the 1800s. The swimming areas and trails are very well maintained. Picnic tables and benches are found throughout the wooded area and there are some great covered eating areas also. $5 parking fee for motor vehicles.

A 1 and not because of the trails or the scenery or the park ranger, that was all great in lieu of what happened. As I was returning on River trail, people were shooting on the other side of the river. I was absolutely shocked, stunned, speechless, you name it, when I realized they were shooting across the river, towards me and another girl on trail who was walking with her dog. She yelled at them to stop, a horrific scream as one rightfully yells when they’re being SHOT AT! They laughed....

Trails becoming overgrown. Events going on that they never post so you know. Nothing like taking the time, not to mention the fuel, to take the horses riding just to find out there's a huge trail ride going on that's not mentioned anywhere on the website. Then the riders block up the whole road so you can't turn around in the truck and trailer. Tell the folks at the ranger station and they could care less. Worthless. And mow the dang horse trail on the horse side. Rediculous. Apparently...
