Ishëm Castle is a castle in Ishëm, Durrës County, Albania. It is located on a hill above the river Ishëm. It was built from 1572 to 1574 by Ottomans to stop the peasant rebellions. The Albanian painter Ibrahim Kodra was buried in front of it.

Ishmi Castle, built between 1572 and 1574, served as a strategic Ottoman defense stronghold to control roads and prevent insurgent activities. Located on a hill near the village of Ishëm, it is approximately 15 km west of Krujë and 26 km north of Durrës. The castle features architectural influences from various empires, including Roman, Byzantine, and Illyrian. Recently restored, it was inaugurated in May 2024, enhancing its historical significance as a cultural site in Albania. Lots of free parking around,no entrance fee.Amazing views from the top.

Conjunto fortificado muy interesante que evidencia el control otomano de los altos y el interior, frente al veneciano de la costa (Siglo XVI). La buena intervención del conjunto con fondos europeos y cartelería hace que la visita sea muy recomendable. Interesante las torres y las atarjeas, hay que fijarse que mantiene la tranca de la puerta... Ahora, esta a un paseito complicado de la costa en coche, pero merece la pena. En el interior hay hasta viviendas... La tumba es la del pintor albano Ibrahim Kodra.

Место не ухоженное. Все заросло. Видно что когда-то были развалины под присмотром. Была подсветка. К сожалению сейчас все в упадке. Ворота и часть стены. Остальное все заброшено. Если есть время, то можно приехать посмотреть. 5 минут хватит чтоб все обойти и посмотреть. Недалеко, по дороге сюда, есть красивая мечеть со смотровой площадкой и кафе. Там можно отдохнуть и перекусить.

This is one of the few remaining historical relics from the Ottoman Empire that wasn’t totally destroyed by the communists or whitewashed by the nationalists. Get there soon as it is willfully being neglected by the...
