The beach is stunning but ruined by the sun loungers (like many in Albania).
I took the first bus out of Sarande (at 6:30) and got there at around 7. The man who collects the bus fare was kind and showed me where to stop, and the bus was very empty compared to the one at 9:30. The walk down from the bus stop was easy enough (although I didn’t drive I could see what the other reviews were on about, there are a couple of very steep stretches along the way), but very dirty (lots of plastic bottles and beer cans).
I was the first one on the beach, but the sun loungers were already there taking over every inch of the beach. I found a spot beyond the first rocks on the way to the next beach (Mirror Beach) but some of the waves were too big to make that a suitable spot to put down a towel. I left my bag there and went for a blissful swim - the water is stunning and it really is a very easy swim to Mirror Beach.
This is the kind of beach I would have liked to stay at for the whole day (which would have meant I would have paid for food at the bar), but the absence of spots for those who don’t enjoy the mandatory lounger and umbrella scheme made it a very frustrating experience. Maybe it’s better in October.
The first beachgoers I saw there after me arrived at 8:20 ish, and on my way back up I saw a few more cars coming down the road. For around one hour I practically had the beach to myself. The walk up wasn’t too bad, and the bus stop back to Sarande is across the road from where you get off (there’s no sign but it’s directly opposite the physical bus stop which goes in the other direction). The bus back to Sarande was packed.
A real shame about the sun loungers as I’ve been looking forward to enjoying Albania’s beaches but don’t really feel like I’ve been...
Read moreThe beach itself: coming from the crowded beaches of ksamil this beach was a breeze! No loud music, jetskis or giant waterslides. Lovely view on the rocky mountainside hill and clear blue water.
As for the hospitality, we arrived at the beach around 4/5, just wanting to go for a quick dip and we placed our stuff on the beach since we didn't need beds. But as with the other reviews the owner came up and told us we had to pay or else we had to leave, it left a very bad taste since we just arrived to the beach area and had the assumption it was a public beach. Luckily for us some other people helped us out and told us it was not needed, and beaches in Albania need 20% to be public, so if you wanna sit down I'd aim for the left corner. chances are more people are already relaxing there and you have some backup possibly.
When we came back another day we all of a sudden had to pay for a dodgy parking spot up the hill, again we felt just being ripped of as tourist.
Overall the whole beach side area gave us a bad vibe where as a tourist they just try to take advantage...
Read moreWater is clear and nice, and that is only positive think This was our second time to this beach, and there are big waves , especially after 12 o clock The last 300 meters of road is very bad, it is not asphalted and with big holes all the way down to the beach. For those with lower cars I do not recommended And for anyone car it is highly risky, except for those who have a 4x4 vehicle The beach is poorly managed, not clean, graces all over the beach, also into water for entering the sea, because people that manage the beach are not doing anything, more than half or sunbeds and umbrellas are damaged, and not working properly At begining of September the price for 2 sunbeds and umbrela is 1500 lek There is no wifi on the beach Prices in the restaurant are more expensive then in most famous restaurants in Ksamil Highly overrated and especially overpriced in my opinion It is not worth it I do...
