Hard to find right words to describe the authentic stunning beauty of the place and the magic energy that would keep you there for hours.Highly recommended)

Ujëvara e Peshturës, located in the village of Progonat in the highlands of Tepelena, Southern Albania, is considered one of the most beautiful destinations in Albania. The waterfall cascades down a rocky cliff amidst lush greenery, creating a mesmerizing sight. Key facts: • Location and Access: Ujëvara e Peshturës is situated approximately 5 kilometers from the center of Progonat. To get there by car, use GPS coordinates 40.2122728 latitude and 19.9586247 longitude. Public transportation involves taking a bus to Progonat and then either walking or taking a taxi to the waterfall. • Natural Beauty: The waterfall is surrounded by a landscape ideal for relaxation, photography, and nature walks. The sounds of cascading water, birds, and rustling leaves add to the ambiance. • Local Culture: The nearby village of Progonat provides a glimpse into traditional Albanian life. • Accessibility: While one source mentions it’s not easy to get to Ujëvara e Peshturës, it provides detailed directions for future travelers. The road to Progonat has been improved with fresh pavement, though it is steep with switchbacks. • Local name: Locals call the waterfall “buza e ujit”. • Nearby attractions: While visiting Ujëvara e Peshturës, other places of interest include Ali Pasha Viaduct, Pete’s Cave, and...

We came here on 24May2025 and it is just as beautiful as all the other reviews say. Highly recommended.

I wanted to add some more info on the best path to take down, as it wasn’t clear to me from the other reviews. This map is from AllTrails.

The best option is the one highlighted yellow. There’s a spot for parking on the side of the road. You need to jump over or crawl under the road safety barrier. Otherwise it’s a pretty easy walk down to the river (don’t cross the bridge), then a scramble down to the bottom of the waterfall.

We parked where the red circle is and took that track. This is a bit sketchy as it goes along the top of a cliff and we both got nettle stings. We came back up the yellow track and walked back to the car along the road.

The purple path looked like it was a really steep path down from the road with a lot of loose rocks. Wouldn’t recommend.

I’m really unsure how the blue path works. It goes from the campsite you pass on the road in, but the north side of the river has huge cliffs, so I couldn’t see where it comes down.

TL;DR. Take the yellow highlighted path down and enjoy these...

Amazing place, but in our experience, it can be difficult to find the easiest path. We tried several ones and would recommend the following: if you start at the cheese farm, walk away from the village. In a few minutes, you’ll pass a memorial. Soon after that and béfore the sharp bend in the road, step over the guardrail on the left of the road. From the road it’s hard to spot the path, but if you cross the guardrail and walk a few meters, you’ll find it. This path has some parts that are a bit challenging, but it’s the best path we found (better than the one with the sign in the village and the one at the other side of the bend). When you reach the waterfall, it’s...
