Ancient Lisuss inhabited by the Illyrian population since the 8th century BC. His name “Lissus”, is thought to be the linguistic coloration of the old Illyrian name “Lisi” meaning Oak tree.

In Lezha, political and cultural activities of the national high level were organized, such as: The Covenant of Princes (2 March 1444) where the first state was founded on the basis of principality, the Assembly of Arber (14 January 1703), on the initiative of the Pope of Albanian origin Clement XI.

In this city begins and ends the story of the national hero. The Princes’ Covenant and the burial place of Gjergj Kastriot Skanderbeg are the reasons for the historical visits, where on 17 January 1468 in the Cathedral of St. Nicholas in Lezha was buried the national hero Gjergj...

Nice history place good to visit

An interesting place! I visited in late February and there were no other people around except the groundskeeper. There are signs that help you understand the history. You can see the sea from here. A beautiful, quiet and unique place to stop in Albania. The road to the top is all up hill. The Google map shows it as a 30-minute walk, but due to the steep incline I recommend taking a car unless you are in great shape or want to spend some good amount of time walking up there. The view is quite something! I didn’t see any restrooms there and it is not a tourist trap. There are no shops or restaurants. Just go to enjoy the beauty and the history of the area! :)
