Simply a breathtaking experience, which is worth dedicating a whole day to.
In order to get to the Bovilla Reservoir, we decided to rent a car and make it a day trip. The road toward Bovilla is a journey in its own: we really enjoyed observing the authentic countryside, the lifestyle of the Albanian people further away from the city and the lovely spring weather.
Although the road is slightly difficult to get through, we managed to get there and back to Tirana without a major accident. Nevertheless, please check that your rental car is ready for such a trip! Our rental car had damaged clutch and broke the day after the trip to Bovilla, so perhaps we got lucky.
At the reservoir there is a restaurant on the top of the hill, which is quite convenient to reach with car, hiking takes longer time obviously. The tour guides are really friendly and are going to take care of you throughout the entire hike. Multiple spots for taking wonderful photos. A must visit if you are in Albania and have the...
Read moreIt’s our second time in Albania, and this time we decided to visit Bovilla Lake (last time we have been just for two days so we haven’t got enough time). We rented a car by which was forbidden to drive to area around Bovilla, so last minute we decided to rent a quad. We were lucky, because as the weather wasn’t good few people resigned from renting them, but we, as we love adventures, say yes! The owner was very nice, he rented us three quads and we go for the adventure. Really this adventure was the biggest in my life. We were traveling in the rain and then back by the storm with heavy rain and hail. All of us were totally wet everywhere :p we finished after 1,5h and must change our clothes in our bus. The road is terrible :p a lot of holes, not so wide, big trucks from quarry, not so many safety barriers and general - climbing to Bovilla rock was a challenge :p but we did it :) the view (in march and in rain) is maybe not so spectacular but when you would like to see Bovilla...
Read moreIt's amazing view but watch out from which the side you want to arrive to the lake. We took eastern part and, first of all, we almost stayed for the night in there because the hills and rocks were very difficult to drive through and go out to the street. Second of all, if you choose to walk on the muddy side, you also may stay for a night. We sank until half of our bodies, but luckily we were in a bigger group, so we helped each other. Safer is to walk on a sandy part. All in all, the views were amazing. Water incredibly clear. Worth to visit but better not to do it alone, so in any case someone...
