One of the most beautiful places on this earth. Once I enter the trail I feel as though I'm in another world. With majestic mountains as a back drop, whether rain, shine, winter, summer, autumn or spring. I'm always in for a treat. And if you are lucky enough there is a stable that rents horses out to those with riding experience and so the trail can be seen from horseback. It is green somewhere along the Alphen Trail all year round. And now with Spring officially here, nature is showing off her beauty in all splendour. Indigenous and foreign species of nature live together harmoniously, with the stream running through it, echoing ever so gently in the background. It's as though nature has its own meditation track on loop. The Alphen Trail is perfect for the lone walker, couples, new love and walks with your best friend (mine bring man's best friend of course). I look forward to bringing my dog Athena on walks (with a leash which is imperitive), as soon as my dog arrives in Cape Town. I know she is going to love it as I do. I even moved to be close to it. The mountains always bring an achoring to me. And the splendour of nature in this area reminds me how we can all live harmoniously together. Alphen Trail is where it's at!

*Trail Review:* Alphen Trail, Constantia, Cape Town *Distance:* Approximately 10km return *Difficulty:* Moderate *Time:* 2-3 hours The Alphen Trail, located in the heart of Constantia, is a hidden gem for hikers and nature lovers. This moderate 10km return trail offers breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains, forests, and vineyards. The trail begins at the Alphen Hotel, where you can park your car and grab a coffee before embarking on your adventure. The initial section of the trail winds through a beautiful forest, with towering trees and a tranquil atmosphere. As you climb higher, the forest gives way to stunning views of the Constantia Valley and the distant mountains. On a clear day, you can even see Table Mountain rising up in the distance. The trail itself is well-marked and well-maintained, with a few steep sections that require some scrambling. However, the scenery and views make every step worthwhile. Overall, the Alphen Trail is a must-do for anyone looking for a moderate hike with spectacular views. Be sure to bring plenty of water, snacks, and sunscreen, as well as a camera to capture *Recommendation:* Suitable for moderate hikers, nature lovers, and those looking for stunning views of Cape Town.

Really nice place to take a walk and it's a very well known place for dog walkers. The problem is that it used to be a place where you could walk your dog off-lead, but now there are signs up saying that you need to keep them on-lead at all times. So people ignore the signs and walk then off-lead anyway because everyone else is doing it. After all, no-one is getting hurt and the dogs have much more fun. But as someone who sticks to the rules. I've decided not to go there anymore with my dogs because it's not fair to them with other dogs off-lead. Having said that though, you can see that the dog owners know that their dogs should be on-lead when you encounter them, as they all have that slightly panicked expression on their faces. I don't blame them though, it's just a rule that's been imposed by the city that makes it unpleasant to those that follow the rules as well as those that do not.

This is a wonderful trail in the heart of Constantia that offers a relaxing walk that also feels pretty secure. Parking is free and there is security on duty, and you can take the walk at your own pace while the environment provides a lovely backdrop for your thoughts. Many people walk their dogs along the trail and people are generally friendly and polite. There are a few impromptu gathering spots along the way and the benches provide extra spaces to have a rest and take in the scenery. There are no bathrooms and parts of the trail are indeed wheelchair friendly.

I love the alphen trail. It is perfect for any level of fitness, and offers tons of shady and sunny spots for enjoying the outdoors and stopping to rest. The trail is safe and usually bustling with groups of people, dogs and kids. There are only few bins along the trail, usually only at the start/end of each leg. There are horse riders who frequent the trail as well as many dogs, so do not take your dog if it is reactive, or keep it on a leash. There is a coffee caravan towards the middle of the trail with delicious coffee and fresh pastries to enjoy.

Great trail for a quick walk. It's fairly flat, and the path is well defined. Safe to walk alone too. Frequented by families, pairs of walkers and solo walkers. Expect to see lots of dogs, on and off leads. The occasional horse can be seen too. The Parking is overseen by a guard with a dedicated guard-hut. Be aware that entrance to the parking is not well maintained - there is a pothole/ditch at the entrance that is dangerous for non-suv/4x4s. Highly recommend the alphen trail!
