Portal San Nicolas — Attraction in Municipio de San Miguel

We are cycling-tourists and tried to enter the park with our fully packed bikes. The route is a catastrophe a lot of sand and puddles. Even with a light Mountainbike not to recommend. After having nearly reached the Portal San Nicolas we talked to a guarda parque in a 4 wheel drive pickup who refused to help us. (Later we found out that they make people pay 120$ for the transport — families who live in the region do not know the park because they simply can’t afford it But that’s another topic). He didn’t even warn us about a herd of male buffalos around the corner. When we saw them we decided to turn around and slowly head back to the village. He and the car were gone by then. Later people told us that the buffalo’s even attack pickups and that the police is forced to shoot them...

One of the (2017 situation:) 6 portals to the Esteros del Iberá wetlands. You need to get to the small municipality of San Miguel (just off the 118) to get access to the track. As with the other portals, it has been developed by CLT Argentina together with the locals. Consequently, there's free camping available, and horse rides and canoe trips can be arranged. Uno de los (situación 2017:) 6 portales a Esteros del Iberá. Es necesario llegar a la pequeña Municipalidad de San Miguel (Ruta 118) para acceder a la pista / sendero. Al igual que con los otros portales, ha sido desarrollado por CLT Argentina junto con los lugareños. Este portal es uno de los más lindos de la zona. Fuimos con el guía Juan José en su camioneta, que nos espero en su casa de San Miguel, muy cerca de ahí y gracias a esto pudimos acceder por caminos anegados por el agua y la arena. Juan José es de la zona y conoce muy bien los Esteros y su historia. Vimos una cantidad increíble del ciervos de los pantanos, carpinchos, yacarés, javiru, monos, garzas y pájaros. Hicimos un paseo en canoa con un lugareño pescador y luego comimos un rico guiso a la olla preparado por Jeremías, el hijo de Juan José. Al volver visitamos la capilla del pueblo de San Miguel.
