Very overpriced national park, with nothing in return for the entrance fee. It seems to be designed for those with cars who just want to make a few stops, not designed for people who want to walk or for budget travellers.
We ordered an uber to take us to the start of the Coastal trial, near the Post Office (which is now closed!) but our driver said she was not able to enter the park. Turns out this is a lie and taxi and uber drivers can enter the park. The person at the gate said taxi drivers can enter. We bought our entrance ticket at the gate with card and then walked 40 minutes to the start of the trail. The scenery is beautiful and very peaceful. Very few people on the trails. We walked all the way to the end of the route 3 highway.
To get back there was no available taxi, and a bus that would've cost us $10 each to get to the entrance gate or $15 to the city. Extremely expensive!! For $40 entry, the park should run a shuttle bus within the park to cut down on cars, and to benefit walkers. If you have a car, you can't do the coastal trail unless you want to walk 16km as you'd have to go back on yourself!!? We ended up walking back 4km to the cafe visitor centre and tried to get an uber back, but no one willing to pick us up! Luckily there was an available taxi driver there who took us home for $20.
Overall $55 per person at the end of the day to walk around nature. It is lovely and beautiful, but not worth that amount of money. Laguna Esmeralda and glacier martial are just as nice and free entry!! Do those instead if you are...
Read moreLovely national park. Not quite as spectacular as Los Glaciers but the sea adds its own charm. We especially enjoyed camping along the Brazo Ovando. If there isn't much wind, mosquito repellent may be useful.
We were also lucky enough to encounter the local Tierra del Fuego fox, some magellanic woodpeckers, and caracaras over the 35-40 km of trails we covered.
Entry fees (40k paso / 40 USD) are a new addition although I have no issue with this if the money goes towards conservation/upkeep. We paid a discounted 20k to cover the next day's entry as we were camping .
I do wish there was a public bus going from town into the park as even the private shared minibusses are extortionate (30k per person).
For some reason the rangers ask you to fill in a form to complete the Guanaco trail at the entrance to the park. This is a non technical trail in summer with
Read moreThis is an incredibly beautiful national park near Ushuaia. The road in is gravel but well maintained and drivable by any car. Entry is expensive at around $40 a person but we felt like it was worth it. We did do other hikes outside the park so can compare them to those inside and I would have missed out if we had avoided the park.
The Coastal Path was our favorite. The path follows the coast and goes in and out of beautiful coves. We hiked about an hour and turned around. There is a bathroom at the trailhead. The post office at the end of the world seems to be closed indefinitely due to an unsafe pier.
The visitor center is worth stopping into and has a pretty good giftshop, postbox for sending cards and a large restaurant with prices which were a little high but friendly service and the food was good. The lake down the access road from the visitor center is very pretty and requires no walking to see it- just park and get out.
Trails at the end of Route 3 are all fun and simple including a boardwalk that is...
