This is a hidden monastery in the heart of forest. It is almost covered between tress. It has very beautiful fresco painting but unfortunately they are not being well kept. The road to this monastery from highway was absolutely difficult and hard to get with car. First of all it has to be a small size car so you can fit in through the passageway which is a kind of bridge for train. After that all the way is between trees and there is no way to turn car over. So if you get stuck, you are really stuck. The car has to be a little bit high so you don't hit bottom of your car. Long story short, park your car down in highway and start walking. It might take about 20 minutes. The last part is really hard to walk, there are stairs which are slippery and dangerous to walk. Not recommended for elder people who are not fit. See photos for better understanding. Tips: 1.Don't bring car, park it in highway and start hiking. 2.Wear good shoes. 3.Bring drinking water. 4.Don't go solo.

The monastery was built in the 12-13th centuries AD. It will take some 30 minutes of hike to reach the monastery from the main road. When you reach the monastery, you will see the church of St Astvatsatsin (Holy Mother of God) to the left and the belfry with the refectory to the right. From here you will have a great view over Debed canyon with the town of Tumanyan. P.S. Don't forget to drink from the springs.

You gonna hike for 20mins through small local houses and then a hill to get there. Hidden monastery not well preserved but incredibly impressive. Fresco is under construction. Highly recommended to pay a visit but make sure you're wearing good sporting shoes or hiking shoes to get there easily as it's really hiking path.

The Kobair monastery complex stands out for its majestic appearance. It is located on top of a rock on the western slope of the Debeda canyon, on the edge of a deep gorge, and it was built in 1171. Even more ancient castle walls and artificial stone terraces extend around the monastery, but I did not find any detailed information about them in the public space. This monastery also attracted us with its mystical caves nearby, which are said to have a special energy. From the side of the monastery, you can go to them through small paths. These caves are popular with both pilgrims and mystics who devote themselves to meditation in them (I can add that these caves are indescribably beautiful and the feeling of being in them is phenomenal). To get to the monastery, you have to go through several courtyards, where aunties treat you to coffee and offer very tasty home-made jams, honey, tea, cookies and other home-made delicacies. Further up the hill, a narrow path winds through terraces built in prehistoric times, where grapes and fruit trees grow. In the middle of the climb is a refreshing mountain spring. The climb to this historical place was...
