The nine Vaishnava holy places are considered as related to the Navagrahas (Nine Planets) and worshipped. The deities themselves are taken to be the Navagrahas and prayed. To a Vaishnavite, the term Alvar signifies Nammalvar who has rendered in Tamil Thiruvaaymoli, considered to be the essence of Vedas. He had not visited any divyadesam and remaining in the tree-hole, he sang of all the deities in the different divyadesams. It is believed that all these deities rushed to Kurukoor, sat in the branches of the tamarind tree and requested Nammalvar to hail them! Madhurakavi Alvar, born in Thirukkolur (Navathiruppathi for Mars), saw a blazing light from the south when he was journeying in the north, came to Kurukkor following the light. He saw Nammalvar sitting in Yoga in the tree-hole, understood that he was his Guru and declared in his 11 pacurams, commencing with the phrase “kanninun cirutthaambuâ that there cannot be a God other than Kurukoor Nambi (Nammalvar). He then compiled the Thiruvaaymoli. Nammalvar alone has consecrated this deity in 11 pacurams.

சங்கின் ஒலியும், எக்காள ஒலியும் எழுப்பும் அபூர்வ இசைத் தூண் ஒரு சாண் உயரத்தில் செதுக்கப்பட்ட நுணுக்கமான கிருஷ்ணன் சிற்பம் தூத்துக்குடி மாவட்டம் ஆழ்வார் திருநகரியில் அமைந்துள்ள திவ்ய தேசம் ஆழ்வார் திருநகரி. இத்தலம் பிரம்மாவுக்கு குருவாகப் பெருமாள் வந்த திருத்தலம் என்பதால் குருகூர் எனப்படுகிறது. முதன் முதலில் பெருமாள் தோன்றி நின்ற தலம் என்பதால், பெருமாள் ஆதிநாதன் என திருப்பெயர் பெற்றார். ஆதிநாதவல்லி மற்றும் குருகூர்வல்லி என இரண்டு தாயார்கள் தனித்தனி சந்நிதிகளில் அருள்பாலித்து வருகிறார்கள். இத்தலம் நம்மாழ்வார் அவதரித்த தலமாகும். இதனால் இத்தலம் ஆழ்வார் திருநகரி என்றழைக்கப்பட்டது. நவதிருப்பதிகளுள் குருவுக்குரிய (வியாழன்) தலமாகும். இக்கோவில் சிற்பக்கலையிலும் சிறந்து விளங்குகிறது. அற்புதமான கற்சிலைகள் ஆலயம் முழுவதும் நிறைந்துள்ளன. கை விளக்கேந்திய பெண் சிற்பங்கள், பல வித குரங்குகள், யாளி உருவம் அமைந்த தூண்கள் ஆகியவற்றை இக்கோவிலில் காணலாம். நம்மாழ்வார் சன்னதியில் உள்ள இராமாயண சிற்பங்கள் மிகவும அருமை. ஒரு சாண் உயரத்தில் செதுக்கப்பட்ட கிருஷ்ணன் சிற்பத்தின் நுணுக்கம் நம்மை பிரம்மிப்பில் ஆழ்த்தும். தூண் புடைப்புச் சிற்பங்களாக யானை, காளையை அடக்கும் வீரன், சிம்மம் போன்ற அழகிய சிற்பங்கள் காணப்படுகின்றன. இக்கோவிலில் சிற்பக் கலைக்கு மகுடம் வைத்தாற்போல் குழல் தூண்களும், கல் நாதஸ்வரமும், கல் படிமங்களும், இசைத் தூண்களும்உள்ளன. இந்த ஆலயத்தில் இரண்டு இசைத் தூண்கள் உள்ளன. அதில் ஒன்றை தட்டினால் மூன்று சுரங்களை எழுப்புகிறது . மற்றவற்றில் இரண்டு துவாரங்கள் போடப்பட்டுள்ளன. இந்தத் இசைத் தூணின் இரு பக்கமும் இருவர் நின்று கொண்டு, மாறி மாறி ஊதினால் ஒன்றில் சங்கின் ஒலியும், மற்றதில் எக்காள ஒலியும் கேட்கிறது. இக்கோவிலில் கல்லால் ஆன நாதஸ்வரம் ஒன்று உள்ளது. நாதஸ்வரத்தின் அடிபாகத்தில் பித்தளைப்பூண் போடப்பட்டுள்ளது. இந்த இசைக்கருவி சுமார் 400 ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன்னதாக கிருஷ்ணப்ப நாயக்கர் காலத்தில் கோவிலுக்குக் கொடுக்கப்பட்டது. கோவில் சிற்பம், இசை, கட்டிடக்கலையில் மட்டுமல்ல ஓவியத்திலும் சிறந்து விளங்குகிறது. ஸ்ரீ நம்மாழ்வார் தனிக் கோவிலைச் சுற்றி உள்ள பிரகாரச் சுவர்களில் 108 திவ்யதேசப் பெருமாள்களின் உருவங்கள் ஓவியங்களாய்த் தீட்டப்பட்டுள்ளன. பல் வேறு வரலாற்றுக் கதைகளும் ஓவியங்களாய்த் வரையப்பட்டுள்ளன

This Sri Adhinadha Perumal koil is very famous and one among 108 Vaishu Divadesams. Easily identifiable on the main road of Thiruchendur- Thirunelveli highway. Nammazhvar birth place - Avathara Sthalam. Inside the temple we can see the Tamarind Tree which is the actual penance place of Sri Nammazhvar. Very old tree (more than 5000 years). This tree has lots of miracles with itself, coz of Nammazhvar and 4000 Divya Prabhandam. Sri Ramar Sannadhi is very auspicious one. Good parking is available. Must visit place once you go to nearby places.

Shri Adhinathaperumal temple in Azhwarthirunagari is perhaps the biggest of Navathirupathi temples. The Moolavar is large and majestic. Guru sthalam. Considered as birthplace of Nammazhvar, preeminent Vaishnava mystic, saint-poet. There is a huge very old tamarind tree inside with giant branches. As per legend Nammazhvar did long meditation and composed many pasurams in praise of Lord Vishnu under this tree. Temple is well maintained and is located about 23 kms from Trinelveli in Trichendur road.

5500 yes old temple where Azhwar meditated under a Tamarind tree which still maintained and worshiped by the people. This trees never closes its leaves in night time and the tamarind never rises completely , that is the fruit of this tree cannot be used. It’s was such a great feel to vist this temple . Azhwar is the main deity of this temple , and the statue was untouched by the sculpture . This status was taken from thanarabarani river. A must visit to this temple
