It is a theme park featuring Astrid Lindgren's book characters in their small worlds. In the summer the park has a very busy program full of 30-minute theatrical/musical shows scattered on different stages. Most of the shows are scheduled twice a day, some only once. It is impossible to see them all in one day, since some run simultaneously. The program is subject to changes according to season, so check their website. Everything is in Swedish, but if you are a big fan of Lindgren's stories and know them by heart, it is not a problem at all. It is fun and the performances are very professional. The stage areas are miniature worlds from the books and really make you feel part of the stories. The shows include special effects and animals. There are a lot of places and playgrounds to visit, streets to wander and corners to discover. We were there the whole day from the opening to closing time (and you should, too) and couldn't see it all, because the performances took most of the time. There are places to eat and buy special edition snacks, but you can bring in your own food and use one of many picnic areas. The prices are actually the same as everywhere else, some ice creams had normal supermarket prices. If you visit in the summer, then the park is full of visitors and you might not get a good seat to all the shows, especially the grande finale in the evening. A great friendly park for families with children!

We went on a weekday and had to wait about 10 mins on the entrance to buy tickets. You can also buy them online in advance. The park is really lovely and great for kids! There are many playgrounds and also water-playgrounds. The shows are amazing! It was very hot when we visited and unfortunately there are only very few places where you can sit in the shadow. The are stations where you can refill your bottle with water for free - love that! You can easily spend a whole day there, especially if you want to watch a lot of the shows. When the shows are over, the visitors are allowed to enter the houses like villa villakulla and see everything inside. You just have to check when there are no shows than the places are open to the visitors. There are also restaurants, Cafés and ice cream sellers. Shops to buy souvenirs are there as well. If you don’t want to buy food, there are large Picknick areas as well.

This is what childhood and good parenting is about. Fifty excellent pieces of theater in the open air, by sun or rain and by excellent actors. For children of all ages. From the very young at Madickens place to those over ten at the wildrose Valley. This time we saw the new play of the brothers lionheart for the first time. Incredible. The emotional story was put out in front of us, beautifully done with great passion and at a great surrounding. Even the plants are different around each stage setting, as are the houses, the costumes, the characters. Ronja was great as well, especially mattis and lovis. The leadership fight was funny, exciting and interesting, for the older and the younger people. Finally big honor to the musicians, playing every in the park and closing the day with a relaxing tune so that none of the thousands of visitors lost in in the line leaving the park.

Website leaves a bit to be desired and while the park had free WiFi the signal was weak and it seemed to require a guest password which I couldn't see anywhere. For motor home drivers it's worth noting there is a quick stop option for SEK 200 and the car park has a drain for grey water and a hose and synch with fresh water that we utilised for free. The park gets extremely busy around lunch time but is organised well enough that you don't get too cramped even during the stage shows. Around 3pm the crowds start to thin out. Food options are basically limited to those you'd find in a Swedish service station - sausages, meatballs, waffles, pancakes, and cakes. At 35 SEK plain waffles were about the best deal on offer. Amex is accepted at the ticket booth but not the stalls inside where you can use other credit cards.

A beautiful place with a lot of very well made buildings and caves et.c. Kids love it! They also have some very good food at, for example, Majkens kök. For a grown up man the place may become a bit boring after a few hours and you will want to spend the entire day there after paying the rather expensive entry fee. I didn't watch any plays, but others said they were very good. Place has several ice cream and candy shops. I bought some very good candy there and some, not so special, ice cream. I was also very surprised that the ice cream lady didn't want to speak Swedish, but kept constantly changing to English. If you decide to go here, you will most likely be positively surprised. It is beautiful.

Astrid Lindgren's World is a wonderful place to immerse yourself in the fascinating stories of Astrid Lindgren. The numerous shows on the open-air stages were entertaining and enjoyable for our children, even though they were in Swedish. The entrance fee was reasonable and the grounds offer plenty of space to explore. We spent about 6 hours in the park and the children were exhausted afterwards. We would only advise against the lottery stalls, as we had no luck. Nevertheless, we can imagine returning again and experiencing more magical moments in Astrid Lindgren's world. A must for every fan and an unforgettable day for the whole family.
