The southwest region really started our love for exploring the outdoors together 🍃🌊 We have always known the region was beautiful, but it wasn’t until after our lap of Australia that we really realised just how incredible it is! We’d love to know what your favourite place in @australias_southwest is, let us know in the comments! It’s a tough choice but think ours might be Shelly Beach in Albany 🤔 Make sure you SAVE this post if you’re planning your own Australia travels and follow @jack.and.megan for more bucket list locations! 1. Honeymoon Pools (camping & swimming) 2. Busselton Jetty (iconic views) 3. The Aquarium (snorkeling) 4. Glen Mervyn Dam (free camping) 5. Black Diamond Lake (swimming) 6. Black Diamond Lake in Western Australia is a serene and picturesque destination, especially on a Saturday morning when the stillness enhances its charm. The lake is renowned for its striking blue waters, which shimmer under the sunlight, creating a surreal and inviting atmosphere. Surrounded by lush greenery, it’s a peaceful retreat that feels worlds away from the hustle and bustle. During my visit, I noticed the calm waters reflecting the surrounding trees, making it an ideal spot for photography or simply soaking in the beauty of nature. The area offers plenty of space for a leisurely picnic, and families were scattered along the shores enjoying the morning together. While there are no official facilities, the natural beauty more than compensates for it. The lake’s color is its standout feature, a result of the mineral-rich water left behind by the area’s coal-mining history. This unique aspect adds an intriguing element to the visit. However, it’s important to note that swimming isn’t officially recommended due to safety concerns, so visitors should exercise caution. Overall, Black Diamond Lake is a delightful spot for a quiet morning escape. Its tranquility, vivid waters, and picturesque setting make it a hidden gem worth exploring.

We've visited black Diamond Lake several times before but not stayed for a swim. Today we visited and found the water colour a much more beautiful green than we've seen before. Plus it wasn't very busy so we had a nice pocket with an easy to get to beach - all to ourselves. Dropped off very deep where we were, so not for little toddlers (in this section). Beautifully natural and surrounded by big trees (unlike Stockton, which is stunning in a man-made way), this is a big lake with many access points to the water. And easy to get to, just off the main road in Allanson.

Many visitors appreciate the lake's tranquil and picturesque environment. One reviewer noted, "This is an absolute beauty. Such a relaxing and tranquil lake in Collie that needs to be visited."

Activities:

The lake is ideal for various water activities. Visitors often bring floatation devices, stand-up paddleboards, kayaks, or canoes to enjoy the serene waters. Picnicking by the lake is also a favored pastime.

Facilities and Safety Considerations:

It's important to note that Black Diamond Lake lacks amenities such as toilets and rubbish disposal facilities. Visitors are encouraged to plan accordingly and adhere to a "leave no trace" principle. Additionally, camping is not permitted at the lake; however, nearby Stockton Lake offers camping facilities.

Regarding water safety, there have been instances where water quality advisories were issued due to potential contaminants or harmful organisms. To ensure safety, it's advisable to contact the Shire of Collie for the latest water quality information before swimming.

In summary, Black Diamond Lake offers a serene and visually stunning setting for day visits. Visitors should come prepared, respect local guidelines, and verify current conditions to fully enjoy the...

Some 190 km from Perth. About 2-3 hours drive. Formerly an open cut mine site that stopped operation since 1960s. The 700 meter long abandoned mine is now filled with water  creating a pit of lake. Apparently, the best time to come here is on a sunny day when the water is at its best shining blue azure color.  It's true that the photographs don't even do justice to this place. Even on a cloudy day at 14 degrees, the intense blue waters are so beautiful who wouldn't want to go for a dip? Some women did until it started to drizzle. Still one of the most beautiful water holes in WA surrounded with lush forest. I'm happy we made this trip. Thanks to Giselle and Jvan. It's another world's wonder...
