Gorgeous view over Apollo Bay at Mariners Outlook, even with the cloud cover. Bit of a steep climb, which made it a little uncomfortable for my back problems but worth the effort, just watch coming back down the path as it has a lot of loose gravel, which will quickly have you undone if your not overly steady of your feet. Its a surreal experience when you realise how far up, you actually are, as it doesn't look that high on the maps. There is a lovely grassy knoll at the top, where you can lay your picnic rug and sit and soak up the view. Love to come back again on a clear sunny day. The trees along the walk are interesting and its a pity the blackberries had long since finished. All in all a nice point of interest, one of many in Apollo Bay, which makes this little haven a much sort after tourist destination. Every place in town was well patronised with visitors, buying everything from apparels, food and drinks and the ice-cream shop had a wait line of half a block, as too the fish co-op on the wharf. Lovely destination along the Great Ocean Road between Lorne and Port Campbell, hope they bring back the Music Festival again one day and the Seafood Festival again next year to make up for the cancelled covid...

Replying to Lenny Lees review below-

If you had an amazing Tourist attraction in your backyard and you allowed access to it free of charge wouldn’t you take offence to people ignoring the car park area for parking/reversing and driving up over your lawn digging it up ????? This Woman you state “Crazy” puts up with tourists everyday pulling her plants out, digging her lawn up, toileting around her home, not to mention the rubbish she deals with on a daily basis. This Woman’s late parents who have owned this property in the Family over a century donated this land to the Otway Shire many decades ago for people to enjoy the views & disrespectful persons such as yourself FREE of CHARGE so next time you decide to visit the little coastal Town of Apollo Bay show some compassion and Remember the good and generous citizens who have graciously provided this piece of Paradise to...

Great ocean road is built by the returned soldiers of WW1, and now its the largest war memorial. It is considered a tourist attraction, in which 1st part of the road hugs coastline affectionately known as the Surf Coast, between Torquay and Cape Otway; followed by green coast and the Shipwreck Coast further west of Cape Otway, providing visibility of Bass Strait and the Southern Ocean.

The road traverses rainforests, as well as beaches and cliffs composed of limestone and sandstone, which is susceptible to erosion.

Mariner's lookout point located at the 1st part (the surf coast). Its a easy hike up the hill where u can have a good view of a appollo bay.

Suggested early morning hike (can drive too) to enjoy the sunrise. Brina extra jacket. The entrance gate is latched to prevent animals from entering. Do check out...

Marriner's Lookout in Apollo Bay offers breathtaking panoramic views of the coastline and the surrounding lush hills. Perched high above the town, it’s a must-visit spot for those looking to capture the beauty of the Great Ocean Road. The short, uphill walk to the lookout is rewarded with stunning vistas, making it ideal for photography, especially at sunrise or sunset. The serene atmosphere, combined with the sweeping views of the ocean and Apollo Bay below, makes it a perfect spot for reflection or a peaceful break during your travels. Highly recommended for nature lovers and photographers alike. Hike 10min No wheel chair access but family and friends can help get on top. Ps . Get some watercress on your way back .. from small stream on the side walk.
