Shelly Beach — Attraction in Apollo Bay

900m trek about 35 minutes to beach from car park that had toilet nearby and picnic tables as well. Road is narrow and paved, but road ends about a third of the way, where a dirt road can be bumpy and not great if too wet. Depending on age and fitness the walk can be challenging and there are no rest stops or seats if your tired. Amazing geology black rock formations on the beach cliffs and surrounding areas. Great beach with some cool rock formations and rock pools. Explore over rocks to the left or right. There is a larger beach just around the corner to the left (facing the water) that we had to ourselves most of the morning. The kids found (and released) many star fish. A lots of beautiful shells to look at too. Very peaceful. Worth the short walk to get to (park at picnic ground and walk 900 meters steady down hill). Toilet at picnic ground. Lovely spot, relatively secluded. I would have given it 5 stars if it had easy, sandy access to the sea, but it's pretty much all rocky. There is a small sandy beach immediately at the foot of the stairs, but rocky - lovely rock pools - thereafter....
