Why go to Egypt when you can find a pyramid in Queensland’s Granite Belt? Standing 17 metres tall and built from over 7,500 tonnes of granite boulders, the Ballandean Pyramid is a quirky Aussie landmark you didn’t know you needed. Believed to have been constructed in the 2000s by a local vineyard owner with a lot of spare rocks and a great sense of humour, it’s one of the most unique (and unexpected) sights in the region. You can spot it from Jacobsen Road - no need for camels or plane tickets, just a good camera and a sense of adventure.

For someone like me who has never visited Egypt, this felt like a truly special experience. While you can't get up close to the pyramid—it's located within a fenced private property and access is restricted—you can still view it from a distance of about 100–200 meters. The sight alone is worth it! Just make sure to bring a camera with a good optical zoom to capture the best possible shots. Overall, an amazing and memorable experience.

We thought it was very impressive. Much bigger than we expected. Can only see it from the road as it is on private property. Great spot to watch the sunset. The pubs just down the road so once you watch the sunset head to the pub for a fantastic feed.

Most definitely in the right place at the right time. Bumped in to the owner of the site and got some history on the place. There was a number of vineyards and they have since closed down. There rocks were all gathered together over some period and they thought, what are we to go with the rocks So they decided to build the pyramid with it and construction took about a year. Each year they have a dawn service at the pyramid for ANZAC day Was there when the blue Kenworth truck rolled in who had organised it with the owners to be there and get a few photos before they head to their formal...

I've heard about this place for a long time, and I'm quite happy to finally be there. If you want to see this scenic spot, it is not too hard to find it. This rock-built pyramid is located in south Queensland, the town call Ballandean next to the New England Highway . When you see the big dinosaur statue, be careful to look for a "Eukey Road", turning into it, then turn into Jacobsens Road, and drive along this road for about three minutes, you...
