Erskine Falls is a breathtaking natural gem and a must-visit destination for anyone exploring the Great Otway National Park. The waterfall is stunning, with water cascading 30 meters into a lush fern-filled gully, creating a tranquil and picturesque scene. The sound of the rushing water combined with the serene surroundings makes it a perfect spot for relaxation and reflection.
The walk to the falls is relatively easy, with well-maintained paths and steps leading down to the viewing platforms. For those who enjoy a bit more adventure, there’s a more challenging trail that takes you down to the base of the falls, where you can truly appreciate the power and beauty of the water up close.
The area is surrounded by towering eucalyptus trees and rich greenery, making it a great place for nature lovers and photographers alike. Whether you’re looking to enjoy a peaceful walk, capture some beautiful photos, or simply immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the Otways, Erskine Falls is a destination that won’t disappoint. A truly magical spot that showcases the best of Victoria’s...
Read moreI hiked from Lorne with other friend. The trail was stunning! The lush green surroundings, flowing river, rocky paths, ferns, and towering trees make it feel like an enchanting paradise.
However, the conditions are super slippery, especially during river crossings. There are at least 8 crossings one way. We were lucky it wasn’t raining; otherwise, it would have been very tricky.
The trail is around 8 km one way. We parked on the side of Foodworks for day parking since their lot is only for 1-hour parking. Start early and carpool to avoid parking issues.
Halfway through, we decided not to return the same way to avoid the boring and tiring trek back. Instead, we hitchhiked from Erskine to Lorne. Walking on the road didn't feel safe due to the many blind bends.
We camped at Jamieson Creek Campground, and a couple of mates drove from the western suburbs of Melbourne.
I highly recommend this trail, but be prepared for the river crossings. The rocks and logs are very slippery, so poles are highly recommended. You'll also have to navigate around a few...

Worth the trip here. The car park is just right next to the Fall. Just have to follow the steps down. 150m
Straw Fall is just about 100m down the trail and definitely worth a trip down if you are ok with the river crossing (more of rock hopping)
*UPDATE Erskine Fall Walking Trail to Lorne Caravan park return hike 7.5km x 2
It’s like a Jurassic world there with all the fern trees and “obstacle course” created by the fallen trees and hanging thorny branches and numerous river crossing.
I started at Erskine fall and walked all the way to the caravan park and returned to Erskine fall via the same trail. Took me a total of 2hrs and 55mins for the entire return hike. Glad to achieve a sub-3hr timing for the entire 2-way hike return hike. I would be back again to shave off another 10mins next time to a 2hr 45mins for the return hike.
All in all, it’s an enchanting path that takes you to a different world, especially closer to the Erskine fall...
