A short drive out of Lorne is the track to Upper and Lower Kilemna Falls. These falls, along with Henderson and Won Wondah Falls, are accessed from Sheoak Picnic Grounds. The track starts to the right of the car park (so behind you as you park). At the time of visiting there were port-a -loos on site and no access to Upper Kilemna Falls due to storm damage making the track unsafe. We were still able to walk to Lower Kilemna Falls and despite the distance (7.3km in and out), this was a very easy track and relatively flat the whole way. Because of this, it can be a very wet/muddy track so another pair of shoes and bags for muddy shoes is a good idea! It took us 2km to complete this walk. Lower Kilemna Falls was beautiful and bears off to the right of the track. The water falls into an open plunge pool and behind the falls is a cave of sorts so you can get in behind the falls. This was my 8 and 12 year-olds favourite waterfall from our waterfalls of the Otways holiday. If you go straight ahead of this fork in the trail you would normally reach Upper Kilemna Falls. This should be a 8.5km return walk. After some late morning tea back at the Picnic ground we set off for Henderson/Won Wondah Falls which is 4.4km return from Sheoak picnic grounds (1.5hour to complete). These 2 walks took about half the day so we were able to enjoy some time back in town afterwards.

Super easy 3km hike to get here (if you’re fit/active/used to walking) no steep hills or anything and a fairly wide track. Suggest going early morning when I imagine it wouldn’t be so busy. I was here mid afternoon and there were a few people around which meant getting long-exposure photos was hard. I was surprised at the flow amount given it’s the end of summer and a dry one at that - no decent rain in weeks. Would love to come back when flow is higher

I really enjoyed my day walking from the Sheoak picnic area to the Upper and Lower Kalimna falls. I hadn't seen waterfalls in person before but the Lower Kalimna falls were nothing short of spectacular. The walk was not challenging, so I found it very enjoyable and was able to take in the scenery. Definitely recommend visiting this place!

NOTE: As at 14.06.2024, Upper Kalimna Falls is closed and the bridge and therefore path to Sheoak Falls is also closed. Check PARKS VIC beforehand. Lower Kalimna is very accessible and very awesome.

8km Return Journey, Grade 4 (which is mildly hard)

The falls are lovely indeed over-hanging a boomerang-shaped cave / enclave, with a small fern-lined pond. Well, well worth the car ride to the Sheoak Park and walk. It is very close to Lorne, maybe 15 minutes along dirt, bush track.

This track and it's feature destination is beautiful, mildly challenging and absolutely worthwhile. I was here in June 2024. Wet track from recent rain however on the day I was here it was dry except for tree-rain and windless. Still needed to be careful of slippery sections (mostly dark mud with high water content in the middle; the clay-y, lighter sections were safe enough: ya don't wanna fall and turn your coccyx into not only the stupidest bone in the human body but the most painfullest bone in your body). The track ambles in mild curves and inclines; the track itself is two people wide. It has a lot of fallen bark, exposed tree roots and crushed bluestone has been laid in strategic spots. There are a couple of little walk bridges with mesh grating. Lotta moss and ferns, it's beautiful, really. Many spots where you can stop to admire the creek, its gurgling sounds and frothy spectacle. I saw a whole wallaby! Sadly, it was faster crossing my path than I was for my phone. No drop bears. A few birbs hopping and flitting about. Some several curious mushrooms, curious indeed. I am a reasonably fit 50-something so it wasnt too taxing in itself however it was still a 2 hr return journey (with many, many cautious steps and wonderment of photos and videos). Its more uphill returning but honestly, not heavily so. Bring suitable clothing and hydration/food. Please take your rubbish home. There are port-a-loos at...
