40 years ago I visited the Redwoods at Big Basin in California, and found it a magical experience.
Even the air tastes and smells different... a pure clean.
This forest was just like that.
Bear in mind these Redwoods are only youngsters at 82 years of age. Some of Big Basin's trees are estimated at 2500 years old.
These trees are over 100 metres tall, and higher than the Statue Of Liberty.
It is an amazing place and one of rare beauty. Even rarer for Australia, as these trees were planted in 1936 and are not native... yet they flourish.
Where: Beech Forest. The Otways. Its a narrow two lane sealed road. You will share the road with logging trucks. It is twisty and winding, so STAY CLOSE TO THE LEFT. And do not speed, as most corners are blind.
Phone GPS. Download maps of the area before you go, as there is no internet connection.
Facilities. Prehistoric toilets. No food. No fresh potable water.

The peaceful atmosphere and the sheer size of the redwoods make this a must-visit spot for nature lovers and anyone exploring the Great Ocean Road. The grove is well-maintained, and the surrounding area is lush and beautiful, offering plenty of photo opportunities. Whether you're looking for a quiet place to reflect or just want to experience the awe of these magnificent trees, The Redwoods Otways is an unforgettable destination. Highly recommend...

If you aren’t a very confident driver like myself the drive may be a little daunting, much easier to access from the North than south, I would recommend travelling down from Colac rather than up from Apollo Bay through the forest (roads are slightly more treacherous).
All in all good family fun, after rain it can be a little muddy and slippery. Bring a spare pair of shoes you don’t mind...
