An unforgettable Blue Mountains hike! The Valley of the Waters walking track is a spectacular journey deep into the lush rainforest of the Blue Mountains. Starting at the Conservation Hut Café on Fletcher Street in Wentworth Falls, the trail winds past a series of breathtaking lookouts and cascades, including Queen Victoria Lookout, Isobel Falls, Empress Falls, and the show-stopping Sylvia Falls.
The track is well-maintained but includes around 1,000 steps to reach Sylvia Falls—mostly a mix of stone and metal staircases. The descent is relatively manageable, but the return climb can be quite a workout. If you’re not used to steep or extended walks (or haven’t seen a stair master in a while), be prepared to pace yourself. Some sections are steep and can be wet or slippery, so take each step with care and stay mindful of your footing.
That said, the effort is absolutely worth it. The sound of cascading water, the crisp mountain air, and the breathtaking views at each waterfall make this one of the most rewarding hikes in the region. It’s a must for nature lovers and photographers alike. Bring plenty of water, wear proper hiking shoes, and don’t forget your camera. It’s a challenge—but a truly unforgettable one. The photos do better justice at representing the shear beauty of this walk than my...
Read moreI recently hiked the Valley of the Waters in the Blue Mountains and it was an absolute delight. (I may have ignored the do not enter sign).
The intensity of the hike was just right - not too easy but not too strenuous either. It was a perfect mix of inclines and flat stretches that kept me engaged throughout.
The scenery was breathtaking - the views of the surrounding valleys and the cascading waterfalls were just awe-inspiring. The entire trail was surrounded by lush greenery and it was a real treat for the senses.
Overall, the Valley of the Waters hike was a fantastic experience and I highly recommend it to anyone visiting the Blue Mountains. The scenery is stunning and the hike itself is just the right level of intensity to make it enjoyable for all fitness levels. Few spots to swim and admire the waterfalls.

Read moreGreat day for a fantastic walk in mid August/ Winter. Started the Nature Track at West St Wenty Falls and took in Edinburgh Castle Rocks and Lillian's Glen (gorgeous spot exploring the creek and rock hopping). Detour to Valley of the Waters Track / Empress Falls it was so worth it (even with the staircases and heights), probably the best watetfall I have come across in the Mountains...and it hadn't been raining for quite some time (when we did this walk) so you can only imagine the power and flow after a good downpour. Then on to Empress lookout and Queen Victoria lookout before the climb to the Conservation Hut and then the walk back to the car along the...
